Hacking Questions about Homebrew Channel

I recently brought wii u and it came with firmware 3.0. I installed homebrew channel on it. Now I want to update to 4.0 through MK 8. I guess my question is,

1. If I do, will the update wipe the homebrew channel
2. If it do wipe the HBC, will it prevent me from installing it again.

Sorry if it's a newbie question. I'm new to wii u and never have wii either.

You should be fine. To the best of my knowledge, vwii hasn't been affected homebrew wise.

It's safe, but keep in 4.1.0, this has PowerPC exploit for Wii U, I don't know if 5.0.0 or 5.1.0 has a PowerPC exploit too, well, keep in 4.1.0 if you want Wii U homebrew.
