Excuse me for the possibly dumb and repeated question, but:
Can you just start off with a .3dz from the get go and never run into incompatibilities issues? Even for offline play.

From what I gather, you lose data if you ever need to go from .3ds to the .3dz format. What do I lose if I am on .3dz dumps? Is there ever a reason for which you would need .3ds over .3dz?

Thanks
really if you ever plan to even maybe use online play with a game, you should use .3dz from the get go....or be prepared to start over if you do want online access

also bear in mind each .3dz is tied to the header used to create it, so if you start a game as .3dz using a header from your own cart, then sell that cart and delete the rom for whatever reason....if you ever go back to that game at a later dat you need that exact same header or you save will also be unusable

can you see all updates on eshop ? using the keyword "update" I see a couple of updates but not every ones ...

could someone tell me what the safest way of updating emunand is? is it through the nagging "update your system" or is it booting into gateway mode and going into the gw3d system settings and updating?

Well through the system settings definitely works, I'm not sure whether it was through the eShop or/and the nag that also updated your emuNAND.

updating from system settings is supposedly the safest, but i think thats only as you get to double check that GW3D is displayed so you 100% know your in emunand

Nope, .3ds has no advantages whatsoever. However, if you're lazy and the particular game doesn't have online function either works.

i can play tomadachi roms ( and eventually smash bros roms ) without update emunand?
Read the first post please.

As gateway posted on their website: no. You need to update emunand to support the new key encryption ( whichtomadachi and most likely ssb have)

well the only sort of advantage is that you can share saves without having to share your own personal header file or use the public headers

i've been reading a couple of back pages
and here is what i got

1. pokebank works, you can get celebi but doesn't explain if you can store pokemon
2. previous pokemon save in .3dz rom can be played
3. previous pokemon save in legit digital (eshop) can be played

plz if someone can try these and answer my question
1. can pokebank work properly, like store pokemon and if i store in GW mode pokebank
will my stored pokemons available in classic mode pokebank (like are they connected?)
2. will my pokemon save in retail cartridge can be played in classic mode?

Pokebank is online as far as I know, so all your pokemon should be the same no matter from where you connect to it :)

I am wondering about the second point though? will I still be able to play my retail cartridge on the new update without losing any saved data?

well the game is playable - just not really for you, just like i am not able to play the european copy of pokemon x/y fully updated on my japanese 3ds :)
i think i read something that youkai watch 2 'NEEDS' the update, otherwise it won't even save or something? that's a shame for you if so.

i grabbed the update for youkai watch 1 a few hours ago, i wonder what it fixed...

Im on a EU 3ds. I have just tried youkai watch 2 honke and saved 2 minutes in right at the start just before going downstairs to talk to the mother. I then exited to game main title, then pressed home menu -> quit. Went back on game and my save was still there. I then turned off 3ds and then back on the game and my save was still there. So far so good it seems...yay!

Awesome, my first system update (for emuNAND). Now on 8.1 :D

Downloaded updates for:
MK7
SMT IV
M&L DT
Pokemon X
Pokemon Y
Tomadachi Life

Any others?
