Hello.

I just bought a 3DS 4.5 on I will receive my Gateway soon.
I read a lot of guide on the Net, but have some questions in advance :

After installing GW, if I shut down and switch on, will I be able to play directly a retail cartridge (assuming this retail game is 4.5 compatible) ?
When I switch on, am I using "realNAND" mode directly ?

Then, if I want to play a 3DS backup, will I need to do the "profil" thing every time ?
The "profil" thing boot on emuNAND right ? With the GWxxxx indication ?

So, emuNAND is "only" useful to play games (retail or backup) which need a higher firmware ?
So what is difference between "spoof" and "emuNAND" ?

In fact, I don't understand difference between "Boot Classic Mode" and "Boot Gateway Mode".
Which is laucnhed at 3DS boot ?
Which is launched at "profil" thing ?

Thanks :)

Yes. If you are in Gateway mode you can either enter the system settings and exit, or turn the 3DS off and back on to go back to the regular firmware and play retail games. You can also use classic mode to play games requiring firmware >4.5.
Yes. You have to use the profile exploit to use the Gateway every time you turn it on.

Yes, unless you are already in Gateway mode, then you will stay in that mode until you enter system settings and exit or turn the 3DS off. However the exploit only has to be installed with the DS flashcart once, unless you play a DS/DSiWare game, then it will have to be reinstalled afterwards.
If you have an emuNAND installed on the SD card, it will boot that NAND, otherwise it will use the regular NAND on your 3DS.

Currently emuNAND isn't useful for anything at all, spoofing is all that's needed to play games needing a higher firmware, emuNAND is meant for being able to access the eShop, but that doesn't work at the moment since emuNAND doesn't work with the latest firmware. However an update will be released soon allowing the latest firmware to work and then you can access the eShop once again.
The difference is that spoofing tricks games into running on lower firmware, emuNAND actually lets you run a higher firmware.

Classic mode is for retail games. You can use that to play cartridges requiring >4.5 FW, and even games from other regions. Gateway mode is exclusively for ROMs (but downloaded eShop games will also work)
Nothing is launched at 3DS boot other than the regular firmware, the 3DS firmware itself is unmodified and like any other, the profile exploit is required to use the Gateway on every boot.

Thanks a lot !

I understand now :)

So if I want to play a retail cartridge which need firmware 2.1 (for example), no need to use "Classic mode".
But if I want to play a retail cartridge which need firmware like 5.1, I need to use profile exploit+classic mode.
