Mylink5, I've read that 2013 models rarely come with 4.5 or lower.
Go for 2012 or lower models, unless updated, these come with 4.5 and lower.

Also, to remove the downloaded system update, I have to format my 3DS, right?
Will the content on my SD card still work after that? (Channels, saves, Eshop games etc.)
Because I will not be able to download stuff from the Eshop after that, to keep the FW on 4.4.

you downloaded 199 roms, that 601-800
Oh! Really? I`m stupid russian man! (Giveaway was partited(i dunno how to say) on 4 parts: 1-200, 201-400, 401-600, 601-800)
But, anyway in real it`s only 300 roms((

Also, if I format/factory reset, to remove the downloaded System Update, if that works?
Can I besides taking my SD card E-shop titles, also my Zelda Four Swords game with me somehow, or move it to the SD card? It is stored on the 3DS it self, rather than the SD card.

Also, I just bought a Gateway, is it legit?

Yups, it's legit. The middle pin is longer than the others.
I think you can redownload your titles after formatting as long as you use the same nnid. Doesn't seem like an option for you though since you're using Gateway. Also, you can't use the copy of the eshop games you already have after reformatting since the license for those are stored on the 3ds itself.

Can a an American 3ds play a Japanese game online with a gateway?
Yesu~

Is there a catch to gateway online play?

Hi all, quick question. I've been away from gbatemp for a long time (since the original DS days). I received a 3DS as a gift, but it has the latest firmware update (8.1.0-18U)

Since I would need 4.1-4.5 firmware to utilize 3DS flash carts, is there anything else I can do (besides play regular carts, etc etc) while holding out for a hopeful update from Gateway (or any of the other ones)? I guess specifically, is there any homebrew I can play with, etc?

Well, there are the ds flashcards if you're so inclined

Sorry, but if you're going to correct someone, you should be correct about it. That's 200 ROMs, not 199.
Ohhhhh the shame, 601-800 is 199 see....it starts on 601....600-800 would be 200...but 600 is not there....so its 199...its basic maths....seriously
so to quote yourself.

It's a difference of 199 roms but 200 roms since we're counting the fenceposts, not the fence gaps.
Another way of looking at it is - take away 600 from both numbers we get 001-200, that's 200 roms.

Why does Gateway have a more complicated way to save your game? From what I've heard, the MT-Card saves your game straight, so why not Gateway?

What do you mean? Gateway always exports the save to the SD card after you exit the game. Although when this is not the case (e.g. battery running out) it is supposed be able to load from the save from the internal chipset, first time this happened to me it didn't, second time it managed to keep the save so YMMV.

My bad, it happened to me once and I assumed it had always been like this.
