Hi, my son has a Nintendo 3DS-XL and I saw that there was Chrono Trigger the first rpg I ever played for 3DS, so I wanted my son to have the same great experience I had playing this game, but there is a problem and I don't think its the console. At the start of the game when u go through the portal trying to save the girl, when i went through the portal it was stuck for ages and it won't work. I bought it from amazon, it used so it didn't come with anything. I did a google search and someone mentioned this site, but there is so many links and topics I don't know where to start. I would really appreciate if some one can give me some advice or point me the the right direction on what to do. Sorry if did not start this thread in the correct section.

Thank you.

Wrong section, but it sounds like it's a cartridge issue. Maybe the game was written to the cartridge incorrectly, these things do happen. Mostly with the new Nand-based games, but it's not impossible to happen to others.

Not being able to go through the portal was an issue with the initial release of the Chrono Trigger DS rom as an anti-piracy measure. If the game detected your flashcard (R4, M3, CycloDS, etc.) it would let you play until you reach the first portal but it would never let you go through, just an infinite loop sequence. I've never heard of it happening on a retail cart, though maybe something about playing it on a 3DS might cause the game to get confused.

Did you buy the 3DS-XL from Amazon or the game also? If the game is a ROM, that is your issue. There should be a patched version somewhere that removes the AP protection and lets you play as normal.

The endless time tunnel is a well-known antipiracy measure that was included in the DS version of Chrono Trigger at the time of its release. What flashcarts are you using, if any, and what firmware versions?

Oh, I thought this was a 3DS game issue (Hence posting in the 3DS section -_- ). If it's a "legitimate" cartridge (Not a flashcard), then it's probably a fake.

It looks like an original 3DS flash card with the CHrono Trigger sticker on it. I was able to remove the sticker and there's nothing on written on it, on the back has the Nintendo logo and the following numbers:

NTR-005-PAT.PEND.
AMSEN1J12

One, Chrono Trigger was never released on the 3DS.

Two, if it looks like a flash card and not an actual DS cartridge, there's your problem. It's fake.

I forgot to mention the number on the sticker, you can see it in the photos.

ah.. i remember that thing. it was an AP issue. Its when ure at the two teleport thingies in the fair, right? i believe u had to patch the rom in the old days. Try looking for another Chrono trigger rom, should be patched already. No links can be given here, but maybe google can help u find a "paradise" with other roms.

Yeah, that's definitely the wrong label code. All I can recommend is contacting the seller, presenting proof that the cart's fake (although they're likely already aware), and if they refuse to refund you or send you a genuine cart (which they probably don't even have or have access to), escalate the issue with Amazon.

I don't know that there's really anything you can do if the issue's with the cart. Maybe if you had some sort of Action Replay or GameShark you could load the anti-anti-piracy patch as a code, but I don't really know how feasible that is.

EDIT: Also, do you mind sharing the name of the seller you bought it from? I'd just like to know the odds on whether they might've accidentally sold a counterfeit or if they're legitimately a fake-goods wholesaler.

Not to be rude, but 2 people already stated it was an anti-piracy issue and he's not using a rom, but rather a cartridge that he purchased that is likely bootleg. I just wonder whether you bothered to read the thread beforehand.

sorry bro, but one would think otherwise since this is the "hacking and homebrew section", dont be a smartass. Also, some know the common problems that have happened, in the past, ds-scene wise.

edit: anyways, same situation. cartridge looks fake, and must have an unpatched rom flashed to it. try a flashcard, TC.

yes a bootleg with the unpatched rom on it, hence the game freezes, that is exactly what everyone is implying

Elli
does this fake ds game save onto some internal, built-in micro sd card or does it save onto the 3ds sd card? if you can find your save on the 3ds sd card, then you can download a save file from after the freeze or play until right before the freeze on your 3ds, save, copy save to pc, get the patched rom, play till after freeze, save, restore save to sd card...
if that doesn't work, talk to the seller or amazon, don't think that selling unauthorized copies of games is something that amazon allows lol, the seller will have to refund your money

most of the time reseller will offer refunds if you explain they got caught out selling a fake....if they are planning to sell lots of them they will usually just do a refund so they don't get reported and can continue on their dodgy business (i would still report them afterwards though :P)

but its getting a bit difficult to buy genuine NDS games online now, so many fakes about......its like the fake SD cards online, every other card is a fake

Google doesn't show anything for product ID NTR-XCVB, Chrono Triggers would be NTR-YQUE-USA for the US version. This cartridge is highly likely fake, also look at how unprecise the logo is cut out. I'd give it back and demand my money back. Also report the seller for being a fraud on whatever platform you got that game from.
