The difference is you can change music while in-game by using the Steam overlay. You don't need to Alt-Tab or assign hotkeys.

Only thing I think it's really lacking is that you have to make a queue or playlist or whatever when you start the game, if I'm listening to an album and I want to change albums I have to Alt-Tab to Steam and change it there. Seems kinda contradictory to the point of it.

I have no idea how this works in desktop mode as I can't even figure out how to add music but in Big Picture mode it works well. It's somewhat lacking though with options and while you can play music it's annoying how you do so.

Still it's great to use for those games that just don't alt tab well or refuse to run in borderless window mode.

you know, you can use a complete external player too, like a cellphone.
I'll try the thing out before make my verdict, but if lack flac support then is shit, mp4/m4a/aac can be a pain too.

But then you wouldn't have the game's sound coming through too unless you blast both on speakers, which just seems horribly inefficient.

Don't people put music on while playing games because they're tired of the game's sound ? I might have misinterpreted what you said about Terraria, though.

Anyway, I guess this is kind of neat and will probably be useful for people with Steam OS, who don't want to download a dedicated music program.

It's more that the game music becomes tedious to listen to than the sounds of it, at least, this is what'd happened to me on 360 games (I'd always play custom soundtracks over the original scores -- except for PoP 2008).

I meant more so to keep sound effects and voiceovers, the game's music can be tiring though.
