Ouch, looks like I won't be getting the new Brawl then considering it will cost over $100 to get the same roster as the Wii version ($60 for the game, $15 each for the figurines). I wonder who all will be included in the new Wii U Brawl by default, probably just one or two characters.

The figures are just a way to train a virtual pet-like AI that you can fight against much like normal bots, they have nothing to do with what characters are unlocked.

i am almost positive that the figures will just be if you want to customize the fighters like they did with pokemon rumble u
and if im right i wont care for them because you cant use custom players online so they will be a novelty at best imo

They're not even for that. They're basically for creating and storing a customized AI fighter that gets better the more you fight it. The figures are not needed for anything else, including character customization. Also, you CAN use customized characters online if you play with friends or if you just play local multi... which is the game's strongest point anyway.

so in other words if you have no friends to play online with...you can buy virtual ones to help you fight :P

Amibos are totally optional. They only exist to get neckbeards to buy them, because they have disposable income from not dating and not buying grownup things like nice houses and furniture.

fucking Skylanders started all this bullshit

I don't really mind them as whenever I see Disney's Infinity figures I really really want to buy them but then I see the prices, and hot damn! £11 or £12 per each and they all look so fuckin' awesome I want them all too!

Disney and Nintendo figures. I wish I was rich, sigh..

whats the character lineup , sure more than the OP's 6 . Pointless purchase less u like plastic toys , my kids may demand them , but unless they offer real game enhancing NFC then naaa.

They're not just "plastic toys" it's small figures which are pretty cool and really good in terms of quality if they'll be like Disney Infinity and the Skylanders.

No, they're probably aimed at kids so they go whine at their parents to buy them. But gr8 b8 m8 8/8.

i, sorry ive had and sold skylanders swap force and disneys infinity ,, they dont hold my kids attention .. they are of marginnally good quality , nothing "wow" just plastic characters , that arently really playable away from the console . The whole point of the characters is to add some cool enhancments to a game , which they didnt with skylanders , just forced you to buy more to continue the game , its very clever marketing , that needs to offer more than it does , the nintendo model seems to enhance this with the introduction of characters to mario kart "as an example" but i feel it needs to offer more , for mario kart again as an example , maybe a character driven track ,etc .. however im not sure what can be stored on a 1k chip or so..

all these games had the option of just selling the charterers as dlc for $0.99 each but instead can make an extra $14-19 by selling cheap plastic figures instead, something that probably only costs $0.50 to make

The whole thing is just a scam

Today I visited HMV and saw that they have big-ish Super Mario figures for sale and the price is pretty much the same as what the Amiibos are going for so the better deal is to get the large figures over these tiny ones.

What the Amiibos have in advantage is that it doesn't just focus in the Marioverse but covers all the characters in Smash 4.

Do the Skylanders ones have built-in memory? I know these upgrade as you use them.

I think this whole thing sucks. You get an unfair advantage if you purchase amiibo figurines. It's something I would expect from EA, but not Nintendo.

What advantage? You just get a customizable bot, basically. It's not like it'll make your own character more powerful and I'd be extremely surprised if they're allowed online.
