It's safe to assume that most households own a router - simply add Nintendo's update servers to the blacklist and your Nintendo platforms will *never* perform an online update again. I received the 5.0 update after I played Mario Kart despite auto EVERYTHING being turned off. I shut off my Wii-U when it had the OK to begin update and blocked it in my router immediately. When I powered back on, it gives me a 'failed to download update' error every once in awhile but doesn't restrict me from doing anything locally.
You're not locked out though, the 5.0.0 exploit is being worked on![]()

I should have shut off the router when it was d/ling ....I didn't because I was told this update is safe ....I really hope this is true
