I upgraded my fat PSP to the official 6.60 firmware then installed CFW 6.60 ME edition.

I can access the recovery boot menu by holding R when the system launches so the firmware appears to be installed correctly. However when I try to launch any games or homebrew the PSP loading screen boots up, hangs, then the system powers off. This also happens when trying to load Hellcat's Recovery Flasher, so I haven't been able to successfully downgrade the firmware.

I'm getting really worried something messed up somewhere, although the recovery boot menu works and my PSP does still boot up, just none of my games or apps launch.

Any suggestions?

I haven't messed with my PSP in years so I was trying to get it all fixed up. :(

What options have you altered in the Recovery Menu? Also, did you place the applications in the GAME directory or a kernal specific directory?

I haven't touched anything in the recovery menu, just pressed the button to make sure it was there. Is there a possibility of fixing my install through the recovery menu? I'm nervous to touch anything in case I screw something up. lol

You could try running Chronoswitch through the Recovery Menu. Just put the main Eboot in ms0:/PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/ and the option to run it will be in the recovery menu. That should get you back on OFW. After that, grab a fresh copy of ME 1.8 or Pro-C (fix3)/uoPro-C2 to make sure your installer wasn't corrupted to some degree.

If that doesn't work, the easiest thing to do would probably just setup a Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick and just use those to wipe and recover it. ME can softmod batteries into Pandora mode and DC8 still works well on memory sticks.
