Hi GBA,

I have not got my WiiU hacked but what are the benefits of hacking your WiiU rite now cause I have not got a scooby doo?. Just some info and a run down would be nice please. I already have a Hacked Wii so would I benefit from hacking my WiiU at this time?. Also can you play Wii disc ISO games on your WiiU being hacked in 1080i? Its on the latest FW 5.0.0, just to mention.

Thanks :)

No difference. vWii is mostly the same without brick protection. That and only devolution/nintendont on vWii - no DIOS MIOS/gcbc. Wii games don't look any different/better in vWii - maybe a bit cleaner with HDMI vs Component - but nothing's that's going to look magically better.

The only real benefit is having 1 less system on the shelf - though I like to keep my Wii around for testing software and verifying games for Devo.

The only good things I can think of versus an actual Wii would be the upscaling of Wii games to 1080p/i/whatever you have the output set to if you're into recording anything, and being able to get rid of your Wii if you're so inclined too, but for now it's really locked down whereas the wii has been entirely torn apart and everything's proven to work on that, so you have a lot more flexibility.

Thats what I thought and wanted to do, so could you play my Wii back ups on 1080p/i but can you use the Wii back up discs in your drive cause I have loads put away or is it just USB media only?

I haven't tried yet since it involves installing cIOSes but IIRC it should work. Looks like there are vWii versions but I'm not gonna be the one to try, so someone else'll have to verify it.

When you say backups discs, do you mean burned copies of Wii games? Answer is no. The physical drive is different than Wii, and would require a new drive chip. It will play normal Wii discs fine.

In fact, I'm almost 100% positive in 2009 they released Wii's that stopped reading burned/copied discs.

Pretty sure you can't use burned discs. I'd just stick with the hacked Wii unless you really want to get rid of it and use the U instead.

USB loading is more future proof in the way that you don't burn your drive's laser.

As for WiiU vWii vs actual Wii.. Think it of Gamecube ports + more open vs HDMI. If the future GC controller adapter thingy works in vWii, it could remove the GC controller problem.

I wish! That'll never happen, ever since emukidid decided to ragequit

you're right, once the Wii U Homebrew Scene gets started, no one will EVER think of developing a nintendo 64 emulator to run at full speed.

Well, I mean, do you think it would actually happen?

I read the news about Gamestop being offering 50 dollars trade-in credit when you trade wii towards wii u.. How ? Should I bring it to the gamestop for my Wii right away for my discount deal? I want to transfer everything to Wii U but I can't because I will have to bring Wii to trade or something. Yes, I do have SD card from Wii. I am a little bit confused.

P.S. I was told : You'd still need the original Wii and it will have to be setup at the same time as the Wii U

Ok some great info here, thanks all. So I have decided to stick with the Wii at the moment it is a shame because I wanted to play my back ups on 1080p/i, it would of looked nice with Mario galaxy 1/2 and the Wii U tablet etc.. but for just USB media I'm not really interested in going down that route at the moment just for Wii games its too much trouble and hassle, I know USB media is more future proof but just for the sake of getting the extra nice graphics on display its probably not worth my time. I will hopefully wait on either the WiiKeyU or some sort of homebrew method which probably wont be to far coming. Thanks everyone for your time :)

Wii games are rendered at the same resolution on the vWii as an old wii console, they are just upscaled by the console and output over HDMI.
The upscaling the WiiU does is no better than that on your TV, so the only real benefit is the digital HDMI connection on the WiiU vs analogue component on the Wii. Which is to say theres not much of a difference at all.
