I am really considering ordering one from Teensy.co.uk Wednesday, its only £78.99p which is not a lot considering 1 game costs £45 - 50 which I am going to blow on Mario kart 8 anyway on Wednesday next week but it says, I quote:-
  • Play your WiiU or Wii games from any USB media
Does this mean your going to need to buy an extra Hard Drive for the ODE for it too slot into it or something or does it just mean, use say a 64GB SD Card?. I'm not sure myself cause if you need to start buying extra bits like a Hard Drive to keep your ISO's on it could become very expensive! I don't mind an SD Card I have a spare 64GB one anyway so all good. Does anyone know any info on this method of loading or anything on an ODEmulator?. Thanks.

It mean's that if you take your SD card and plug it into a USB adapter it will work. I think the ODE has it's own USB port you plug in storage or possibly an external BD drive if your obsessed with optical disks.

I have been thinking about it, I think I am not going to be buying one of these things. Pirating is ok and all, I have no moral objections to it myself. Just as a collector it's not my priority and with out cool homebrew stuff I don't even want to hack my Wii-U.

The drive in the Wii-U seems fast enough to me that it's not painful to load a game (PS3 did make some games a pain... So happy to hear they put a much faster drive in the PS4.) So with out homebrew and it's not like there are 10,000 games coming out on the Wii-U every week so I can actually buy the ones I want. (Things may change down the road but right now it just seems to early for me lol)

Edit: But to better answer the question... lol

It would be best to buy an external USB hard drive of some sort, or do like I did and spend 10 bucks on an external enclosure and find a trashed laptop to steal the drive out of. (500GB's is plenty for Wii games, I put every game I own on it and it's still less than half full lol)

As much as I want one, I'll just wait a while. What if a softmod solution comes out and you're locked in a preorder

Agreed. I got all giddy like a schoolboy after hearing about the preorders and was about to pull the trigger... then better sense prevailed. Wait for reviews, or at least wait for a true demonstration of the unit in action.

I'm hoping for a wireless remote (with a screen on it perhaps). Would save a lot of hassle.
I can pretty much guarantee you that you will get the same remote as the xk3y and the 3k3y. Maybe the V2 Remote, not sure if that is included by default now.

For wireless you can use the web interface, which I'm actually surprised to see in the feature list. Before you can use this you'd have to buy the proprietary wireless dongle though. There have been talks of allowing any generic wifi dongle, but I haven't spoken to anyone from / close to the k3y team in a long while.

anyone who is putting any money down for this is an <insert insult>.

That depends. Having a relatively cheap (3 full price games) and easy to use piracy option available might change the minds of some developers holding things back "because of piracy". That point will be rendered moot. Furthermore it *claims* to allow upgrading to any OFW so in pass-through mode you should be fine (Ninty's latest 3DS firmware 7.2.0 broke eShop in the Gateway flashcard's EmuNAND mode, and this hasn't been fixed yet.)

That being said, the Wii with HBC is the standard and perhaps we will get to that point even before Wiikey U is released. If not, the PS3 versions of their ODE support homebrew, so if I were them I'd offer a bunch of freebies to well-known Wii U developers.

A Wii U ODE could not support homebrew, though, since all disc content is encrypted and signed. Even if we can make our own ISOs and make the Wii U think they're discs, we can't make them think the discs are valid.

probably 'cuz of this part ...
'Tested on WiiKeyU'

here (no good for us though the shipping would kill the price :P)

Hello
2 differences.
We are not charging peoples credit cards at all before shipping. Which means you can cancel at any time with no fee and no fuss. Other websites are saying that if you cancel you will get store credit, or a refund minus 25%!!!!

Also, our display price is in Australian Dollars.

So, right now

114.95 US Dollar equals
123.56 Australian Dollar

If you are in Australia, we have to charge you 10% GST, if you are elsewhere you don't pay it. So we are about $1 more. Which is pretty good considering Australia is such a small region :)

Because we all know how shity the ds scene was with all those flashcarts.... Tho I would recommend waiting for a review/exploit to be released..

Good old 3k3y team, how's that 4.55 workaround coming? Guess after 5 months they gave up.

I don't understand why people are so angry at customers who pre-ordered a wiikey u. I find 100 $ a reasonable price: not too cheap and not overpriced (remember 3DS gateway flash cart costs > 60$...).

For myself I don't think about buying one since I am just a casual gamer and I only buy 1 or 2 games per semester (I don't like to play too many games since in my opinion it kills the experience). Nevertheless I am very enthusiastic to see how it will turn out.
