cearp, So after looking at my dump of Pokemon Y, it generated the ROM dump and a .sav file (which is 0 bytes in size) on the SD card. Upon transferring the ROM over to my microSD card and starting it up, the save already in the ROM registers as corrupt. So even though the save dumps with the ROM, it doesn't matter in the end. Not really surprised in the end, but worth a shot.

What were you trying? Normal dumps should have their save preserved.

stop speculating about bans for now. the hack just surfaced and no one can predict what will be ninty answer to this.
Maybe the cart ID will be blacklisted (and the real cart owner will be fucked lol), maybe all players will be kicked from the game, maybe a console ban, maybe nothing at all..
Just keep in mind that like on every other consoles, playing online with a backup is always unsafe and at your own risks.

Can see people going to try dump new games, then resell it to others.
Dark times for the used games market now if this is going to be a thing.

did you change the rom name to .3DZ

also was the game played on emunand or retail 6.x +

Changed the ROM extension to .3DZ. Main game cart played on retail console with up to date firmware (which is why I'm guessing my save comes up as corrupt when I transfer it over.)

Guess that I should have prefaced that first. Sorry about that.

well seeing as you have powersaves to resore your saves, could you test something, play the game on emunand, then dump the game and rename to .3DZ, i wanna see if the save will work, as even if you dumped a cart that was played on emunand the save was still corrupt due to the unique cart ID stuff, now that the cart ID is in place the save might work in rom format....im just wondering as changing the cart ID on a rom makes the save show as corrupt so i assume they are correctly managing the unique cart ID stuff now

I will try it out and let you know what happens.

I'm gonna try by dumping my game and save.

Wish me luck.

i don't think it will work, already got mario kart dumped, i will test but gateway saves are all 512kb and the real save is 128kb

Update, nope doesn't work....not sure about nand saving games though as they are a fixed size

Ok. So I dumped Kid Icarus. Modified the Cart ID for example a portion of the ID had the value of 50. I changed it to 49. It had a fragmentation error. I fixed fragmentation error via the use of GW Rom Splitter. Selected the rom, 3DS froze. Tried it with my original dump, online works.

On hindsight, it might be due to a rom trimming issue but I doubt it.

Also, side note. Save dump works fine with my Rom dump

you can edit it but some places made the game not load in the menu, just editing a single byte on mario kart disables online again so it does indeed seem that they need to be exact for it to work. and using a valid ID for a different game just makes another game crash with " an error has occurred" when launching it

On a related point regarding the save game dump and restore feature.

The .save dump is not named according to the "Main Title ID" which is what GW .sav files are usually named as. Can someone test if renaming the .sav files would affect the ability of the rom in loading the save file?

Also, if renaming the .sav dump to the "Main Title ID", can it still be restored to the original cart?
