Epic Games is currently holding a Twitch stream on which they've just revealed an upcoming title - a new Free Unreal Tournament game for Windows, Linux and Mac. Follow the link below to see the stream yourselves!

EDIT: Oculus Rift support for UE4 has been confirmed, the team is also working on implementing skeletal animation on the basis of motion controllers. The engine will be made available for developers on iOS, Android and HTML5.

EDIT 2: The stream has finished, visit the official blog below for more information.

Oh, well, I guess that could be nea-

Maybe it'll be fine, but... eh.
They're not planning any "pay2win" kind of a scenario, they want to use Unreal Tournament as a springboard for UE4.

Speaking of UE4, the engine is confirmed for iOS, Android and... HTML5. It has a very small footprint and can work on mobile just fine, so expect the mobile game market to get a nice shake-up, hopefuly we'll see UE4-powered "console quality" games on mobile devices soon.

That's what they always say.

Personally, I don't have a whole lot of faith in Epic. They haven't made a good game in a long while, and they've lost a lot of their key figures recently (most notably CliffyB). It's probably better to err on the side of caution here.

Well sometimes they come through. LoL being the best example, most played game in the world, and you don't need to pay to win, not at all. Of course, that's not a shooter.

Was Quake Live something similar, or was that just completely free? That's a decent comparison , similar game.
Looking forward to it, definitely going to play it, have very fond memories of it.

There's so many free to play shooters out there and many cheap ones as well so it would be really hard to convince people to buy it in this day and age where everyone just plays COD. However they seem to be almost in same kind of position as Valve in that they can make pretty fair game and take money from engine licenses instead.

As long as UE4 is as PC friendly as UE3 I'm happy. Even more happy if they wouldn't default frame rate smoothing on or made it adapt to monitors refresh rate.

I am also not inclined to be overly optimistic, however having seen some of the drivel he has put out there as far as commentary goes I do not know if it counts as a negative.

That said if they manage to actually make a proper f2p game... well -p +d
