Chell was having a conversation with her grandparents on Skype today and I heard so many funny mispronounced words, so I decided I wanted to see what mispronunciations you guys have heard.

The best of what I've heard today, along with what was actually meant:
  • "Ch-yoo-yoo-nib-yoo" (Chuunibyou; context: the contents of Chell's wishlist)
  • "Nag-gih-mah" (Negima; context: the contents of Chell's wishlist)
  • "Wiggerpedia" (Wikipedia)
  • "Erl" (URL)
  • "It" (IT, as in tech support)
  • "Flappy Disc" (Floppy Disc)
  • "Michael Moore" (Macklemore)
  • "Adele Dazeem" (Idina Menzel; intentional mispronunciation)

A buddy of mine who's English isn't so perfect once used the word "erection" to describe the word "reaction" while we was chatting on skype. He linked me a video and said something like "I showed my Sister this video while looking at her erection.". After a long awkward pause of silence we got it all cleared up and it meant to say was "I showed my Sister this video while looking at her reaction". For a moment there I thought I had to reevaluate who I was hanging out with :P

My grandma used to say "lexecuted" instead of electrocuted. There were others that she would say that I can't think of right now.

Imafuku, a train station in Japan: While traveling with my brothers, one of them said "we need to get off at I'm-a fuck you"

Fukuyama, a city in Hiroshima, Japan: I once heard a tourist say "hey, this train goes all the way down to fuck ya mama"

Yo-Yo Ma = I've heard this one pronounced "yo mama"

Oh oh oh I made a comment about this on reddit last night.

I work the electronics department of a large retail chain. I've learned I've been pronouncing a few brand names wrong all of my life.
Belkin = Blinkin
Nikon = Nixon
SanDisk = Scan Disk/ScanDis
Lexar = Lexon
Fuji = Fiji
Vizio = Vision/Veezee
Also that Apple makes the i5.
Clearly I don't know enough to work in this department if I'm still learning these things.

I had a friend not very adept in English, so he would pronounce words all latinly, for example:

-Xbox - Hiks-box (which is strange, because he pronounce s the other 'x' properly)
-Windows XP - Vindovs ExPe (he couldn't pronounce 'w')
-water - veighter
-queue - q-ue-ue (as if ue is it's own word)

Too bad he knows English better now.
