Gaming 2014 for the 3ds

what titles are upcoming to compare to last year?

I can't help but feel like there aren't that many quality titles this year compared to last and debatably the vita has probably beaten the 3DS so far apart from Bravely Default.

im not complaining really tho.. I have such a huge back catalogue of DS+3DS games as it is, its all cool. just wondering what others think and are looking forward to??

2013 alone was phenomenal for the 3DS! I guess even Nintendo deserve a break.

Yeah. So far 2014 looks pretty bleak for me too. Only thing I'm waiting for is Smash Bros. for the 3DS. Apart from that I don't know.

Well it obviously depends on what type of games You like. I found the beginning of this year quite good , with titles such as :
-Yoshi's new Island
-Kirby Triple Deluxe
-Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton
-Mario Gold - World Tour
-Bravely Default
-SSB 3DS
-New Shantae game
that have already been released or will be released soon. I do admit that apart from those I cannot think of any game that I'm waiting for , but I think something might be revealed at this year's E3.

Other than 1st party there's almost nothing coming from 3rd party.

EDIT: RF4 and Theathrythm 2 are the one's i'm waiting/waited.

Its mostly based on your opinion. If you're looking for games based off Disney franchises, kid's toys, and summer movies, then the 3DS is swimming in titles for 2014, as was 2013, and 2012.
However if you're only interested in actually good or interesting titles, then 3DS has never been a system with as many "upcoming" games to look forward to like previous console and handheld systems. 3rd party support for 3DS is pathetic if you're outside of Japan.

I know with the NDS, there was always something big or something grand coming out at an average four or five times a month but those days are long gone, especially when it's much more profitable to copy a template from mobile and cash in on lazy development and IAPs.

the truth is, its not easy making big games on the 3DS unless you have big money backing you.

My thought on the epic NDS library is that perhaps piracy in itself was a form of major mass marketing for the NDS library as a whole that didn't cost the producer anything. I remember a great deal of games that I'd buy after playing it on an emulator, much less, never would have been aware of that title in the 1st place. Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon always had my loyal dollar, but I would have NEVER gave any Final Fantasy older than 8-10 the time of day until I played them as SNES Roms. I'm only aware of and bought all the Golden Sun games twice because Golden Sun Lost Age showed up on a ROM list I was following. Even the expertly crafted games will go ignored if marketing doesn't play its role, and Piracy has always been a source of free marketing in my eyes.

So I'd go as far to say and argue that the difficultly and limited abilities of piracy on the 3DS and Vita is keeping their respective libraries from blossoming as slow piracy can be related to slow hardware sales which in turn make developers believe a system that doesn't sell well isn't worth pursuing.

E3 hasn't come yet, that's usually when things gets going. I think Smash Bros 3DS itself is a huge announcement; considering that it will be the first official smash bros games on handheld.

The 3DS has already received a handful of great first-party titles this year, but it's hard to argue that this is going to be as great a year for the Vita as last year was for the 3DS, right down to an overhyped release coinciding with the launch of a completely inferior system revision.

Wait till E3 to see what's coming for Holiday 2014.

Smash bros is out in the summer. 2013 was freaking phenomenal, best year any system ever had games in a single year. What did we get...a whole bunch of first party releases.
