How would that really occur though? You download the save beforehand so you're not connected to the internet when it's writing. There would be no web operation faiure.

Well, it did happen. Note that I was applying codes. It got past downloading the save back from the server and when writing back to the cartridge, suddenly web operation failed and my Y cart won't register anymore.

This was largely my understanding of things as well.

I use an extra cart myself. Safest way to do it.

Amen to that my friend. As long as you have the means to shift stuff around (Bank or a second 3DS), why risk all the time you put into your primary game when you don't have to?

I just wish my Powersaves would actually read. Was working perfectly fine yesterday. My game seems to be fine and it does the weird glitch where it acts like it's loading and then gives me the error or sometimes hangs on loading. Absolutely no one has any recommendations? Don't really want to swab it with alcohol, but maybe I'll just re-install..

edit: Re-installing won't work and my Animal Crossing won't read now either. It's like when I had the wrong license entered in, but it's still the same license.

Is it doing it for all carts or just that one?

Sorry, updated my post as you said that but in case you didn't see:

Have you tried any non-NAND based save game carts in it?

I haven't an am not sure which those would be if I even own any. Is there a list somewhere? Is it just a region you mean? North America, or..? Excuse my ignorance on this. But I don't know, I left my cart in the device over night which may have ruined it? But that'd be stupid.

I'm sorry, I should have just said anything else other than Pokemon or Animal Crossing (there are reportedly a few other Japanese only games that I just heard about, but after seeing the US flag in your profile, I'm going to assume that isn't an issue there .)

The other Japanese game is Tomodachi Collection Shin Seikatsu for those who are wondering.

No, I did several codes yesterday and all was well. I usually remove the cart when I'm not using it just to be safe since it's connected to my computer and my cautious self I don't want an electrical surge or anything messing it up or something. But this morning I noticed it was no longer loading the codes, and re-plugging it and re-installing isn't bringing it back. Hopefully it just resolves itself.. Can't think of what the issue would be other than something messed with the device overnight or my license stopped working properly.

edit: Something I should mention is that sometimes after a while it just hangs on loading and stops giving me the error. It puts me on the PC/CARTRIDGE page and POWERSAVES/CODES stay stuck loading.

Try using another cart in it now. If it isn't recognizing them, it is quite possible that your Powersaves cart reader may not be working.

When I put in New Super Mario Bros. 2 it gives me the back-up screen with no content and the Powersaves/Codes are red exclamation. ALBW also gives me no content available. Animal Crossing again gives me the insert cartridge error, and Pokemon still of course. Super Mario 3D Land also gives me no online content.

For it to be giving you problems now with all carts, it could be possible that there is a problem with the reader. It seems like whatever helps it read the cart's ID to forward to the servers to tell it what codes it should offer you isn't working properly. I would contact Datel and tell them about your problems. It could be a simple fix that they already have been working on. Just be sure to mention that it is not working on Animal Crossing/Pokemon and mention several other titles that you have tried.

Sorry, but that is all I got.

Edit: Also the reason why it will give you the backup/restore screen on the other games that you tried is because anytime it cannot find data from the servers on non-NAND based save carts (also known as Card 1 games), it still will default to that screen. For NAND based save games (AKA Card 2 games), it will do that constant cycling when it can't get what it needs from the Datel servers on start up.

I sent them an email now unfortunately the wait begins for a notoriously slow response.

They actually tend to respond to new legit problems rather quickly (of course I'm sure that they are still wading through bring back the codes, add this code, etc e-mails.) When the Garchomp mess was happening, they responded within a day or two from what I heard.

Two questions

1. Is there any way Datel or someone else figured a way to get a gamesave from one cart to another.

2. Is there anyway to take backups (using powersaves) without an online connection.
