Hacking help with update on psp 2001...

First I want to apologize if posting in wrong thread. I was giving a psp 2001 blue one from a friend. Couple of games on memory card and coupl3 are corrupted. I read that you can update the firmware or hack.its on 6.20 pro-b10.. whats the latest update I should do and how do I go about doing that. Thank you....( it also has 2 8g memory cards in it but only recognize one. ?)there a way so that it can reqd both at same time

Double-check if your PSP-2001 is cIPL-compatible. If not, you'll be forced to use Fast Recovery on 6.60 which isn't ideal, although not a big deal. Not sure if there's any good reason for you to update - 6.60 only offers Music Unlimited beyond what 6.20 already does and the compatibility is virtually the same. Normally I recommend 6.20 on non-cIPL-compatible systems and 6.60 on compatible ones.

There are two ways - a software one and a visual one.

In your battery compartment, under the battery and close to the serial number there should be a Data Code value. If it's anything equal or lower to 8B, like 7D, 8A, your PSP-200x is definitely cIPL-compatible and Pandora-compatible. If that's not the case and the code is 8C or higher, chances are that it isn't.

The other method is using a homebrew app called PSPIdent which will check which motherboard your PSP has. If the motherboard is TA-088v3, it is not cIPL-compatible Pandora-compatible and perhaps you should reconsider staying on 6.20 OFW and just update the CFW. If not, go ahead and update to 6.60.

Report your findings here if you want to be extra-sure.

Ever since team Pro entered the scene, custom firmware on the PSP moved on from fully flashable custom firmwares. These days, live patching of the original firmware is used instead, so that you have both the OFW (Original Firmware) and the (L)CFW (Light Custom Firmware) on-board. This is a safety measure in case you need to use the original firmware for whatever reason, usually for recovery or troubleshooting.

In your case, you're running 6.20 OFW and 6.20 Pro B10 CFW and you want to update to 6.60 OFW and 6.60 Pro C2 CFW (if cIPL-compatible) or keep 6.20 OFW and update to 6.20 Pro C2 CFW. Did that more or less clear it up?

A little bit confusing...so I should probably stay on 6.20..maybe I am getting games from bad website and not installing correctly.

Righty-o, essentially there are several CFW patches, you're interested only in the one for the OFW you are running. You're running 6.20, so 6.20 Pro-C2 is what you want. Now, depending on your Data Code and/or what PSPIdent says, you can choose to update your OFW to 6.60, but it's not a necessary step. Updating should be a matter of running the appropriate installer.

I believe there should be a folder called "Iso" on your memory stick, put your .ISO and .CSO files there.

Ok yes I see them..when I find a gam3 do I have to extract it onto the computer and if so what folder do I put onto the psp

No need to extract if the file you downloaded is a iso or cso, just do what foxi told you above.
Otherwise if its a rar, then proceed unpacking if it contains an iso/cso.
