Or something like it. So, let's say I wanted to hook my Wii (or Wii U) up to a capture device and recorded some game play, are USB capture devices the best way to go about it? Or, would an actual card be the better way to go when it comes to capturing? I've been looking into it and have found several devices, both in card and USB form, but the overall reviews seem to be pretty mixed, mostly being negative for whatever reasons. I currently have my Wii U hooked to my LED monitor via HDMI and it looks fantastic, but I've been thinking of hooking up my regular Wii to the monitor as well, but via video capture device.

The burning question is, are there any capture devices that allow for smooth playback/framerates without the interlacing issues that are commonplace with these devices? One such device I heard about is the Elgato Video Capture Device - http://tinyurl.com/nxoujp3

Looks decent enough, and has a good overall score and many positive reviews, how good it is for game capture is another story. Next we have the Diamond VC500, which also has a good amount of positive reviews, and at a reasonable price. http://tinyurl.com/of3xa9v

Is it feasible to have video input from a console with a decent framerate and without interlacing anomalies? If so, what are some good, but non-super expensive capture devices? Failing that route, would be it possible to have a set up where the Wii U was connected to the PC monitor with the HDMI input and have a splitter or something that can simultaneously connect a Wii and a Wii U to the LED screen? Thanks :D

Get an Elgato, cheap and decent stream software included, I use it on my WiiU and have had no problems, can't use it with PS4 and PS3 only through component

............................USB Cable-PC
WiiU-HDMI-Elgato=
............................HDMI - TV

So it'd work fine on a regular Wii as well? Cool beans :P What about interlacing issues or framerate? I tried a capture device a while back and it was a piece of crap, only 30 fps and lots of interlacing issues, which is what I hope to avoid ;) Odd, it looks as though it only uses composite and not component, are there devices that do?

Edit: I found one that can use component, don't know much about it though http://dx.com/p/vc118-usb-av-video-...gclid=CIHp-rHMoL0CFZSPfgod7DkAEg#.UyqZpfldV8E

Works fine on regular Wii through component, although I've never done it, you can choose frame rate, quality and other audio and video settings in the software, although I have a rubbish laptop so I had troubles outputting 1080p at 60fps (your laptop/PC can probably handle it better)

They're the videos I made using my Elgato on WiiU, might give you am idea on how well it works for me. The other capture device you could get is the Hauppage HD PVR, which the likes of KSI, MattHDGamer and Syndicate use.

EDIT: sorry it is composite not component, I'm messing my wires up! I used a Easycap video capture for Wii, bit like the DX one you posted but a more known brand, quality isn't too bad but it's a nightmare connecting to TV and PC.

Hauppage HD PVR 2 comes with a component cable intended to be used with the ps3 (These colored cables) but you can plug the red, yellow and white cables of the wii into certain ones (can't remember which goes into which, but i found out by youtubing "hd pvr 2 record wii").

There are a few different models of the HD PVR 2, just check the pictures and the back of it should have a "A/V Input", if it does, check the description and make sure it says it comes with the "Component video cable with Hauppauge A/V adapter cable" (exact wording may be different).

That's actually not bad at all, and it looks really good, no interlacing issues either, which is a huge plus! I personally probably won't record past 720p since uploading a 1080p video on my crappy connection would just be asking for trouble :D

Turns out that device you mentioned comes with an adapter for component input, so that too would work nicely http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Gaming-Definition-Capture-Passthrough/dp/B008ZT8QKO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1395301370&sr=1-1&keywords=HD PVR 2&tag=donations09-20 but it is a bit on the pricey side ;) Then I saw this suck on Newegg, AVerMedia C875 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100150

Though for the PVR, the videos sound difficult to edit when you're done recording....

Sounds like it could be the right thing for you, I found my Elgato for £90 on eBay brand new opened boxed, (I think is about $140?) so you may find it quite cheap too, also if you don't mind you could add me as a friend on WiiU ;)

Avermedia one I think is a new(ish) one, I did see an advert for it last week but can't comment on it, seems good for the price as you can record without a PC plugged in not sure about AV input though.

Yeah, I can definitely add ya, I can never seem to remember my Nintendo ID, I'll need to double check, I can do that tomorrow (it's 2 AM where I live lol) :D The device sounds good for my needs too!
