For anyone who's already tried the game, is it any fun to play? I've been signed up for the beta and was given a key for this weekend, but I don't feel at all motivated to actually try the game out :/

Last time I played the beta, and this was awhile back, mind you, It was fairly meh. Good visuals, decent gameplay, but there was a quest bug that killed the servers and rolled back characters which killed it for me then.

I only played it a little. It was a while ago, and it was too buggy for me to enjoy. Of course, that's what a beta is for, to get rid of bugs, not to get the game earlier. It won't cost you anything, so why not try it? If you don't like it, you don't like it.

I actually just tried to redeem my code about 10 minutes ago, and Zenimax refuses my code that they sent me. A little googling and apparently this has been a common problem that no one ever gets fixed.

I'm guessing fate is keeping me safe from a shitty game.

It's quite fun. It feels a lot like an Elder Scrolls game. I found it weird that people were bitching and crying that it didn't. I don't exactly play them religiously, but i've played enough to know how they feel.
There's tons of fun little references and familiar characters all over the place.

Skills seem interesting...though I was hoping for a bit more depth.
Crafting seems alright, nothing really special, but it does seem like it's the way to go if you want to keep up with gear as you level.

Combat is what you'd expect from an Elder Scrolls game, but with actual proper skills, which is awesome.

I bought it with a 20% off coupon and definitely wont regret it, I had a lot of fun even with the mega buggy beta. (closed betas are really only for patient people)

Well, it worked for me, have to try it out tomorrow. I actually am very skeptic about this game, I'm a huge TES fan, so I really hope this works out. I really dislike the monthly payment though.

How to tell when you're playing an Elder Scrolls game: when you spend more time opening containers than killing enemies. I only got a few levels in, though, so I couldn't give it that much of a review. I'm hoping to play more and find out if I should get it at release or not. That whole "Pay $20 more for an extra race and more race customization" thing turns me off, though.

By the way, where'd you get the 20% off coupon?

I'm a klepto in games like ESO, and I hate it. Takes so damn long to do anything because I HAVE to steal everything in an area. So i'm kinda happy that particular aspect of ESO isn't as prevalent.
I got the coupon here http://www.dealzon.com/deals/cheap-elder-scrolls-online#elder-scrolls-online

Also if you don't wanna pay $20 more for an extra race...don't. It's not required in any way and is a total cashgrab, I doubt Imperials are worth shelling out for.

I figured I'd give this a shot despite my misgivings about MMOs in general, especially one that looks like it'll lead a good franchise down a bad path. But 22GB? I probably won't even have the download finished by the time the current beta period ends.

Assuming there are further beta tests, are these beta keys also good for those, or just for this weekend's beta? They seem to entitle you to a general Elder Scrolls Online beta account per the ESO website, but I have no idea what that really entails.

The beta access is permanent. I've had it for months.

Oh god, when I play a Rogue in World of Warcraft, I have to pickpocket every single mob that I can. I sure hope it doesn't come to that in ESO...

So, I played the beta for a while earlier today, and I must say, it has improved quite a bit since I played last. Still got some problems to fix, but they have ~2 months to do so, which is plenty of time.

Played it for a few hours yesterday, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I don't generally like MMOs, but this one feels pretty nice. Skills aren't as in-depth, as Hells mentioned, but other than that the game feels like ES to me.

Probably won't buy it though, while it's good...I just don't think it's "Pay a $15 subscription every month" good. I might give it a try a year or 2 after it...ferments and such, but otherwise it's not a day-1 buy for me.

I still haven't decided if I'm gonna buy it either. I've been thinking about it like this, though:

The game will cost you $60 (or $48, if you have a 20% off coupon). It comes with 30 free days. Let's assume most AAA, non-RPG or multiplayer-focused games that come out nowadays last 20-30 hours, but, to be on the safe side, the average is 40 hours. Doing some simple math, you'd only have to play an average of 1.33 hours per day to get the same amount of time that you'd get from another release. Chances are, you'll have enough time to do so, assuming you don't work 80+ hours a week. Worst case scenario, you don't like it (even though you've already said you did to some extent). Best case scenario, you find a game you enjoy playing, and continue to play past the 30 day mark, spending $15/month.

Sounds great. I sent in a support ticket on Friday afternoon about my key being denied. Got an email a few hours ago where they got around to giving me a valid key. Halfway done downloading now, but man, feels like a waste of time at this point :/

The beta phase that ends in a few hours won't be the last one. Just keep the client for the next phase.

48 hours? Damn, man, join the 21st century. I haven't even seen a login queue before. Longest it's taken me to login is a few minutes. Don't think that your experience is normal.

Well, I really wanted to try it out, but I couldn't either. I normally have around 10MB/s download, yet while downloading the game itself, the speed was around 500KB/s which really took a long time.

10MB/s? God damn. I normally have 2MB/s, and downloaded the client at 2MB/s. I'll be sure to update this thread when the next phase occurs.

Unfortunately the highest speed available around here is 3Mb/s over the air since there's no cable down our stretch of road. Even then I wasn't getting full speed most of the time, and for 22GB of stuff and another 6GB or so of patches, that's a problem.

The login queue only seemed to be a big issue yesterday afternoon, from what I gather. After making it in the first time I didn't have to see it again, although once I got a character created I couldn't do much as the starting cell never unlocked for me to leave. Tried again after a few hours and got it working, but I didn't get a lot of time to play.
