If you take a look at the GBATEMP wiki about 3DS Hacking FAQ, on the section about NAND
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_hacking_faq#NAND_2

There is a topic saying:

Can I restore a NAND backup made using software tool?

Yes.
But only a NAND backup from your own 3DS.

Is there any way to downgrade a system NAND using a backup without hardware modification? or the wiki is lying?

I do have a nand backup of my 4.5 3DS XL, and i'm not using gateway lately because of the brick rumors... I dont have hope that they're going to release a fix soon (2.0 is taking ages) and i'm wondering if is it possible to update the system version so i can actually play my retail games (i cant play poke x and link between worlds because im too afraid to brick my console)

Install 2.0b1. Update emuNAND. Classic mode. Play retail games. No risk of bricking, just some bugs.

No, you cannot restore a NAND backup unless you do some soldering or already have one of those neat microUSB hardware mods installed.

I would continue using GW if you have their hardware and software and no mods or other gateway "clones"...
Seeing as that if it where to brick using their correct hardware and software they should be responsible if it where to brick.
I can understand that if anyone would use their stuff with incompatible stuff it could brick and that would be the users fault, but not if you are using their shit.

Anyway, as far as I understood there is no software way of restoring/downgrading your system as of yet.
But as they draw closer and closer to a Firmware hack, maybe it would be a tool release that would help do that.

Also... where do I get GW 2.0b1? It's not on their site...

I tought about that, can do, but what if the update comes tomorrow, the save would be incompatible, right? i don't want to risk losing my progress in the game...

I do have gateway legit cartridge, and i know that they're the responsible if my console bricks. But what if it really bricks? it will be a pain the ass to send it over, and when it comes back, because im living in Brazil, i'll probably going to be taxed by the customs and the value is going to be the same as a new 3ds... i just don't want the headache of being a friendly fire victim....

No, the saves would only be incompatible with a vastly differing version of emuNAND. If you update your emuNAND to 7.1.0-15 now, it will probably be that same version when the 2.0 firmware releases, and the saves will stay put on your SD.

Hmm... yeah I understand what you mean. I live in Norway myself and they often tax us for shit like that.
But if it is about a service and repair thing and the GW folks treat it as that, you should not have to pay taxes on it. They do that here... They started taxing gifts some years ago (not all but some), but a service packages is to go through as you "have" paid for it. Sort of.

I get that it would be sad to loose the 3DS if it bricks, but I would rather have it brick with their Hard/software in it and get a new one, than have it go to wast if I where to using clones.

I've had it for just under a week and I'm hoping for the best. Just got a problem with my SD cards and launcher.dat :P
The PSP was harder to fix :P

Look at the URL for 2.0b2 on GW's site, and see if you can modify it to point to 2.0b1 ;)

Derp...
Yeah, I didn't think of that. Thanks :D

Sadly i bought my 3ds xl in the US. So if i receive a package from another country, the customs will take a look of what is in the box and tax it based on the brazillian 3DS price, which is R$1.200 (about U$500), the taxes are almost 100%, so even if i send it there and they pay the shipping costs, i'll be probably going to spend 500 bucks which i can use to buy 2 brand new 3DS XL and nearly 2 Gateways from the US.

Yeah, it sucks living here.

guys, in order to downgrade via software you would need 4.x to begin with. don't hope for a 7.x exploit "happening" too soon (or ever).
even if it became possible, at most we would be able to restore other 4.x backups, but it's kinda pointless...

What the shits?!?! 500 US$?!?! Holy shit! That's fucking robbery!
500$ in Norwegian Krone (kr/nok) 3140.5kr.
I paid 199$ (1250kr) for my 3DS XL.

add 15.76$ (99kr) for the charger I needed from Gamestop,
a used Super Mario 3D Land for 63.52$ (399kr),
and finally the Gateway kit for 116.21$ (730kr) and 28.81$ (181kr) for a 32GB microSD.

Total summary:

175.1313$ (1100kr) - 3DS XL System
23.8815$ ( 150kr) - 3DS XL System Shipping cost
15.7618$ ( 99kr) - Gamestop offBrand 3/DS charger
63.5249$ ( 399kr) - USED Super Mario 3D Land
116.2161$ ( 730kr) - Gateway Retail Kit
28.8152$ ( 181kr) - 32GB Kingston Micro SD Card
----------------------------------------------------------------------
423.3133$ (2659kr) - Total price of my current system.

If your system costs more than all this combined it's messed up!
I would say though that I bought my system cheaper than in the stores.
Retail store prices for the 3DS XL system here is 238.8003$ (1500kr), so I saved almost 40$ on it...
Dude... I feel sorry for you... I really do.
And that's saying something when Norway is one of the most expensive countries to live in the world.
Also... I just realized how fucking much I had to pay for all of this... and I really need a new computer.
Even found the parts I need for less than what I paid for my total 3DS System...
Now I feel sad :/

Nah. I would guess that is a little too far fetched. And even if a 7.x, 6.x or even 5.x downgrade option comes out anyone would still be better off with retaining their 4.x FW.
I'm not saying that the PSP was worse or better but having them at 1.50 made a huge deal, even when we finally got a 2.70 hack it was still not easy.

Now, from what I learned in the short time I had to with my system are these things (made a list as I have not found any other like it here)

What if i tell you the PS4 costs R$3999 around here? that is the official price, and in dollars would be around U$1656.99

The 2014 minimum wage is about R$724, which is U$300. And believe me, it's the most common salary on most of the jobs. I personally work with QA in a games company and that is my salary.

Edit: a big mac costs around U$5,25, the fifth more expansive of the world hahaha

Icepotter also forgot to add:

- Just to go trought Brazil's customs when it arrived, it would take something between 45 to 90 days of waiting (to get taxed).

- In case you get the huge 500 R$ tax you can of course start an 'objection' process, present proof (your send receipt, emails from gateway company etc), and wait about extra 90 days to have a final decision, wich might 'you faked all now pay us anyway or f*** off'.

Resuming, it could be a long half year waiting , just to make matters worse :)

What it means is that if you backup your NAND using software, it's possible to restore that file. However the restoring itself still needs to be done with hardware, the software part is just referring to making the backup.

I hope you mean $300 a month.. Not $300 a year...

If I lived in a country that had such a large tax and horrible corrupt postal system I would just move...

Yeah, U$300 a month, but that is too low for the living cost around here, with that money you can't even pay the rent and the bills.
Well, i am at college right now, but when i graduate i'm planing on going to live outside, maybe a post-degree, or work experience...
The only problem of living in Brazil are the politicians, they literally rob our money, we pay ridiculous taxes on everything you can imagine and we never have a feedback from that money, our schools sucks, our hospitals sucks, everything around here sucks.

Well, im sorry about that then, i misunderstood what the wiki was saying, it is really confusing.

holy ****, in my country, Indonesia, the price of 3DS XLs are just about 200-220. I feel you, brazillian :(
