I just got my xbox a few days ago. i didnt know you can check the temperature until later so i dont know any comparison on the first day.
i started tracking the cpu temperature and when i first open the console, its in 70 then just after a few minutes, its 75 until i started playing gta v and it goes up to 79. Imgur
I always put a stand fan next to the console cause if i dont, it heats up. although someone said i should be careful not to blow the hot air inside. Imgur

Just yank up the fans to 80% in Freestyle dash
That should cool them a lot.
Seeing it's a slim, 70% should also do the trick quite well.

Is that a good idea changing the fan speed on freestyle dash? There's like a red warning when I visit that setting so I don't ever go there.

80 degrees Farenheit is just south of 30 degrees Celsius which is spectacular for a 360 and even pretty good for a PC. I suspect you are using the wrong units though and meant to say 80 degrees Celsius, in that case it is not killer like it might be in some PCs but if you can get it down then make the effort to do so.

If you can manage to cool everything down to 30c in a 360 then congrats.
You have a super cooled machine.

80c in a 360 is kinda dangerous tho.
Keep the temps under 70 (stressed) and you'll be fine.
Of course, this can only be measured with a RGH/JTAG

I like to keep mine under 60C.

My Falcon Jtag is still going strong after nearly 4 years of heavy use. Of course it will probably die now I've said that :D.

Me Falcons temps topped a max of 60 on GPU/CPU and RAM 65 (iirc) after playing Bioshock Infinite for 5 hours straight in a relatively warm room.
It'd be modded a bit with a 40 MM fan on the 2nd GPU heatsink + the metal fan mesh in the back snipped away + shroud slightly modded + a hole cut where the 2nd heatsink is.

Edit:

CPU = 51.2
GPU = 54.5
RAM = 66.1
Chas = 33.4

That where the temps after hours of Infinite play.
Altough I remember reaching higher temps..

I still use the old temperature logging plugin, saves me having to look at X time, I can just refer to the logs :). Extract from the log during splinter cell blacklist

While we are on the subject, is there anything else that can log like that to a file on the 360 itself?

I know there is/was a dashlaunch (I think) plugin that would log, but needed to run with a pc app. All the other temp displays, seem to just be current temp, no logging over X time.

That plugin works fine, it just clashes with fsd plugin. So to get disc swapping, I need to use stand alone disc swapper plugin as well and of course no link usage etc (not that I use it anyway).

FSD now has a temp plugin and DashLaunch also has a plugin that displays temps on the shutdown pop up.
As far as I know, the Tempdumper is the only logger that dumps temperatures to a file.

Yeh I also can look at the logs but idk when I disabled it.
Or deleted it for that matter.

I would use DashLaunch to set SMC to 65c CPU and 65c GPU vs manually setting the fan speed via FSD. this ensures that the xbox will do everything in its power to not go above 65c, vs with setting the fan speed, if the ambient temp is too high, 80% may not keep it below 65c, or whatever temp you want to stay below.

personally, I set my SMC to 65c for CPU/GPU/RAM via XeBuild beforehand.
