I can't get the Acekard2 I got my brother for Christmas to work on his 3DS. I've had this work on 3DS's before, now I keep getting:

"An error has occured.
Press and hold the POWER button
to turn the system off.
Please refer to the
Operations Manual for details."

What do I do?

What firmware are you on? The last firmware Acekard 2i works on is 4.5.

I don't know what Firmware he has, how do I check? (His 3DS is like a year old.)
If it doesn't end up working, is there another card that works?

Thanks,
Jack

Now its possible to update Acekard 2i to run in 3DS XL??

It will work on a 3DS XL as long as it is on firmware 4.5 or under.

Just enter the settings menu and you will see it in the right lower corner of the top-screen. The best card on the market right now and works on all firmwares is Supercard DSTWO. Which might be a little expensive, but it's a great card!

His firmware version is: 6.3.0-12U

So just to be clear, the Supercard DSTWO works on the current firmwares even 4.5 & above?

Will he have to worry about future firmware updates or does this have some sort of work around?

Thanks,
Jack

He must have updated it at some point then.

Yes! Supercard DSTWO works with all current firmwares. While I cannot personally guarantee that the Supercard will work forever it's been a around a long time and it seems that it's not slowing down anytime soon. I have one myself and I am incredibly happy with it. One thing to note though is that it has a built in processor which makes it able to emulate Super Nintendo and GameBoy Advance. This processor also shortens the battery life when you are using the card since more power is needed for the card to operate.

Thanks!
Good to know! I'll look into getting him one.
So super nintendo actually works well on it? Do you use snemulds, or some other emu?

The DSTWO SNES emulator you want is CATSFC. It's a DSTWO-only emulator because it uses the DSTWO's CPU to improve the emulation.
SnemulDS is for all flashcarts and there is also lolSnes, which is still under active development, but I do not know how well these run. All I know is that CATSFC is the best option out of the three, simply because the DSTWO has more power to emulate.

Also check out TempGBA, the GBA emulator for DSTWO. Some SNES games that were also released on the GBA are recommended to be played on TempGBA instead of CATSFC, because they run better on it.

You can find all the emulators I mentioned here:
The DSTWO uses a Plugin menu by the way that uses .plg files and .nds files.
The .plg files are DSTWO specific programs, like CATSFC and TempGBA.
But you might want to read the DSTWO beginners guide in de Supercard subforum for a more clear example of that and other DSTWO functions.

After about 20 days, I finally got the DStwo!
The emulators are great, thanks! First time I've ever been able to play Actraiser 1&2 on my DS!
Now the moment of truth, meet up with my bro and try it on his 3DS :)

The DSTwo's the only cart that's survived every single 3DS update without a replacement model needed, because yeah, it has some workarounds that other carts don't implement due to cost.
