That's actually not a whole lot of people considering the size of Canada. Be fair with yourself - Canada has a couple major, dense settlements and is otherwise a wasteland.

Just the state of California alone has a higher population than the entirety of Canada - I'm pretty sure that narrowing down the geographical region in your case would actually be helpful.
