Hi there,

Following my failed attempts to play Skies of Arcadia Undub on my Wii (http://gbatemp.net/threads/trying-to-load-a-gamecube-backup-disc.358328/), I went headed and ordered a GameCube SD Media Launcher to try this on my GameCube systems (got 2).

I used the card reader to transfer GCoS 1.5.dol on my SD Card and I went headed and loaded the SD Media disc in my black GameCube. I loaded GCoS 1.5.dol and tried to boot an original GameCube game but it stopped at "Setting up 06 drive" and refuses to proceed. I then tried it on my silver Gamecube and it gave me the same issue but stopped at "Setting up 04 drive".

Here's what I know about everything so far with all my testing and what I can do with my GameCubes:

-Both systems are the model with digital out
-Both systems are equipped with the NGC BBA and GameBoy Player
-Black system outputs in Component, Silver system outputs in S-video
-Both systems give me the same error with the 2 games I've tried, Wave Race BS and Geist

My theories:

1- You can't boot original games with GCoS 1.5
2- I'm doing something wrong
3- I got later digital output GameCube models that don't work with this

So, what do you guys think?

Your GameCube has a SD card slot? That is very new: I've never heard of those. I'd think 3 because of this. And I've had great luck loading GameCube games from my SD card in the Wii. I propose that you hack your GameCube the traditional way. I'm not sure how to do this and I can't really find any tutorials on here to get you started, though. :(

He's using SD Media Launcher. It comes with a memory card that is an 'sd card reader'. Just look it up. I think GCoS 1.5 can't read originals... not sure. Also, try using all of the GCoS dols. Some should work, while some don't. It's all trial and error. Also, don't try the GCoS versions that are the broad-band dols. They won't work with the sd media launcher. And yes, it would be much easier to just hack the gamecube the traditional way by installing a modchip. Xeno so far is the best and cheapest to get. If you can't get one, make one. It's easy. gc-forever.com Has a tutorial in their wiki section. By the way, you also need to adjust your gamecube's laser if you want to load backups. However, if your laser's strong enough, you can get away with not doing it like me. :P

Oh good, thanks. This SD Card Launcher sounds pretty nice. :) I still have no desire to hack my GameCube, though; I love holding the cases. There's just something about it. Them and PS2 cases. Maybe it's just nostalgia...

Dear God, so much trouble just for as single game, why couldn't SEGA just leave the Japanese voices in :glare: ? Anyway, opening a GameCube for a single game is not worth it, let alone modding it. I'll try the different GCoS files and buy a couple of Mini DVD-Rs, but if that doesn't work, to hell with this game.

Thanks mate

Actually, don't buy any dvd's. Just use swiss (Again, use gc-forever.com for more info. Emukidd made the program so he knows more about it than me).

Tried Swiss, it freezes and says "Reading Slot B". Tried it on both GameCubes, same deal. You were right about GCoS 1.5, it won't read originals. I took the top of my black NGC and tried the 12cm DVD I burned for my Wii. It managed to read pass the "Setting up 06 drive" message only to get the "media wasn't recognized" message. This meant messing with the POT which I didn't feel like doing, so I tried my silver NGC, and that one worked :grog:. So I'll go headed and buy the Japanese version as well as some mini DVD-Rs.

Well then.... good for you! You have a gamecube that doesn't need pot tweaking. By the way, don't mess with it too much, or you'll end up with a gamecube that can't read backup games. Mine did this to me.

What do you mean by don't mess with it too much?
