I have a lenovo y580 and it plays all emulator games full speed.here is a video of me playing brawl on it.

i test psx 2 here

I have the Y570, but the 580 has a more potent GPU, but dang that's impressive. I doubt I would get a smooth framerate on new versions of Dolphin due to several code changes ;)

I have an Y580 and can agree that it's performance in emulation is like butter.
Oh, and it can record many high end games (eg. Sonic Generations, Skyrim and even Crysis) at at least mid settings without any lag. It plays them at least on high at 60 FPS (Arkham City is just soooo much better than on PS3).
And it's amazing in productivity programs such as PhotoShop and Autodesk 3DS Max, where it almost doesn't lag at all (well, unless you're loading something with trillions of polygons in 3DS MAX).
I think this laptop will great work for you.

It's just an online store. XoticPC itself doesn't make laptops, but XoticPC does offer laptops that are customizable.
If you can afford it I'd suggest switching the CPU to a i7-4700MQ which is a Quad-Core it'll add $75 though, and there's nothing wrong with a dual-core if you decide to spend more money.

Well when it comes to laptops like this I always recommended laptop coolers.

Isn't a cooler more likely to kill the laptop faster?

Not at all. That's a myth as it sucks air from underneath and onto the bottom, keeping it from frying your balls off. I've had a laptop for nearly two years with one and it still works fine :P If anything, high temperatures for prolonged periods will kill it faster and add extra strain on the components. Gaming laptops will get hotter due to the dedicated GPU.

Never even heard of them until now.

Anyway, thanks everyone for helping me out here. I don't even have 400 and by the time I do its possible that there will be many types of laptops that may be even better in my price range.

Since laptop coolers run off of USB power (for the most part), having a laptop cooler constantly running causes your system to pull more power (albeit very little) and route it through USB. In the olden days, some laptops (like mine), weren't designed to constantly power a peripheral like that, and the section of the board that controlled power to the USB would overheat and cause more problems than just having a hot CPU. After an hour or so my USB ports would get so hot you would actually burn yourself if you touched them by accident.

In rarer cases, the extra pull could also damage your AC adapter. I had a dedicated laptop dock that, although it required just a little bit more power than I was already using, made it so the pull was too much for my power adapter. It actually melted onto my carpet.

I doubt this is the case anymore, though, especially with the extra grunt delivered in USB 3.0. Even if you don't power the cooler, just having a flat surface below your PC that allows airflow (as opposed to trousers or blankets) will help a lot.

SOME laptop coolers do suck air from the laptop and expel it downwards/away. This can create low air pressure within the laptop which reduces the effectiveness of the heatsinks which in turn kills laptops faster.
Most just blow air onto the laptop which helps the airflow and carries excess heat from the chassis, which helps. That's why it's always recommended to get a laptop cooler.

But those have pretty weak CPUs and don't have dedicate GPUs from what I've seen :P

The ASUS G75VW specs are nearly the same as a Lenovo y580.

Intel Core i7-3630QM 3rd generation processor 2.40ghz
8GB RAM
NVidia GeForce GTX660m Dedicated Graphics

Oh, I guess I saw ones at Best Buy. Whoops. LOL. How much does it go for?

Edit: That one's helluva lot better than the laptop I have now, but too bad I can't find them for a cheaper price ;)

The problem is that Y580 is no longer manufactured so its hard as hell to find one and when you get lucky its very expensive.

Yeah, I found a newer model called the Y510p and 410p models on their site are actually very reasonably priced right now (going for $740 or so), my only concern is the dual GPU setup putting out a lot of heat. :P
