Apparently yes, since you can't play online multiplayer while using Gateway with a ROM.

as if Nintendo don't already know what he has done, i'm sure they look at the internet as well. any company worth their salt would keep up to date with current developments on their software / hardware hacking scene, hence the firmware updates and exploited digital games being pulled from online stores............................sudeki300

Just ordered Gateway, reading the user guide that I have to have a Microsd card. Just wandering instead of using Microsd card, I use Microsdhc card, is it gonna work ??

IIRC region is set by a "flag" in the header. If this card has the "flag" of all the regions then it would be "region-free".

Interesting, I was about to mention the same thing. My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon which included a trip to the Louvre, and concern about region-locking is what kept me from buying a copy of the guide (it was neat to see all those people walking around with 3DSs!). I was happy to read that same article.
