Thank you! I'll try that out

Hey I downloaded it, but
I guess you are talking about GameCube backups, and more precisely using DIOS MIOS.

it depends wich version you installed:
DIOS MIOS : plays backup only from USB
DIOS MIOS Lite : plays backup only from SD

You can play directly from USB, but you need updated applications:
- Install DIOS MIOS 2.10 instead of DIOS MIOS Lite
- update USBLoaderGX to latest revision r1218 to support DIOS MIOS (not to latest version 3.0, which is compatible only DIOS MIOS Lite).

I downloaded it, but I really have no idea which ios to pick. I just restored my nand and used this guide to install cios
https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/installation

Okay I used 249 and it works flawlessly! Loading GC and Wii games from one HDD :) Thanks for the great loader! Is there any way I can download covers and such on the computer?

the covers are downloaded directly inside the loader (you need wifi connection). Press 1 on the Wiimote (or 2, I never remember which button it is).

If you really want to download covers from the computer, you can use WiiBackupManager. point to the correct folders in the settings.

Hello!

I also have a problem with DIOSMIOS.

I've just updated my wii with Modmii using a syscheck file

Updated USBLoader GX to r1218 and DIOSMIOS to 2.10 (Fresh install, DM not DML) My Gamecube games work
but they take several minutes for the DM splash screen to show. My Wii is 4.2 if that helps.

several minutes? I never waited this long.
When I see that it doesn't display the splash screen right after launch it means that DM couldn't mount the drive/partition, so I just force a shutdown (keep power pressed) and try again.
If it's doing it every time, it might be a problem with your USB device (not sending the correct data to DM, and DM retries the mounting part as long as it doesn't have what it excepts).

If you can, test with another device (different brand, size, etc.) to see if the problem is really the device or DM's problem.

Thank you for your response!

I switched out my hardrive with my friends and every game works right away
I guess it's time to get a new hardrive though it's rather odd that it works really
well with my wii games.

I guess I'll just have to hope for updates with better hardrive compatibilty with DIOS MIOS

Make sure your GC games are stored in the first partition of your HDD and that this one is formatted into fat32 with 32kb cluster size.

I have two somewhat similar questions.

Is is possible to rename games without disabling GameTDB support? I would like to use the GameTDB .xml file, but also rename a couple of games which I feel are named awkwardly.

Similarly, is the possible to rename channels? I have my USB Loader GX set up display channels from NAND, but would like to rename a couple of them.

You can rename games and still use GameTDB for everything else.
The Title you will give is stored in the CacheTitle.bin file, so you need to enable the Cache setting

1. go into Settings>features menu. Enable Cache
2. go into Settings > GUI settings > Game Window : "Rotating Disc" or "Both" (or "banner on banner layout").
For the moment, there's no way to rename a game outside of the Rotating disc window. I'll add it elsewhere later so users can rename games with banner animation too.

3. Select a game, it will open the rotating disc window.
4. Click on the Game's title at the top of the rotating disc window, and choose a name.

I've found that the cached titles are not always correctly restored. I often have to re-re-re-rename Okami :/
I'll have to find why it's not correctly kept in cache, or not correctly renamed after a reboot.

Alternatively, you can rename the game's title directly inside wiitdb.xml file. I don't think you update your .xml every day, you probably don't need to rename all new released games (unless you are a compulsory collector).

Thank you! I don't use the rotating disc mode so I had no idea that you could rename the games from there.

There are a handful of namings in the GameTDB that I personally do not agree with, see. For example, Zero: Tsukuhami no Kamen (Project Zero 4: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse in Europe) uses the American naming (Fatal Frame 4) regardless of which region of game you own. There is a similar awkwardness with Project Zero 2, which uses both the Japanese and European names together for some reason.

I have been out of the loop with this project for over 4 years and did not have the opportunity to get fully involved until now. Nothing looks familiar here, aside from the obvious descriptions and names. I am very interested in the 3.0 version of this software and simply need someone to help me get started with this. Maybe this is not posted in the proper area, but currently tired of following link after link and find nothing helpful for starting at "Point A"

PLEASE HELP

I see what your problem is.
Gametdb is a user's editing website (like a wiki), you can fix the data. I will fix the title for Fatal frame 2, (I'll remove the parentheses).
As for Project Zero 4, there are both english name (Fatal Frame) and french name (Project Zero).

It's using english by default if you are using a region of the game which is not your loader's language.
For example, if your loader is set to Japanese, and you have the European version of the game, it will display the english title. As the english title is Fatal Frame 4, it's the one you see. The French one is Project Zero, Spanish is Fatal Frame, etc.
Do you mean it should be Project Zero for all European countries? If you have a link with details on official titles for these countries, I'll change it too.

I used the title given by the translation team "Project Zero 4 -" instead of the one displayed on the cover and wikipedia (Project Zero IV: ), as in French the ":" is not used like this. (always a space before and after).

Hi, welcome back then :)

I suppose you already have the Homebrew channel installed, but it's probably an old version. USBLoaderGX has some features which require newer version of the Homebrew channel (or that you launch the loader using an updated Channel installed on your System menu). You don't need to update your Wii officially, you can keep it outdated it won't change a thing in compatibility.

So, I'll list the steps you need to follow:
1. update Homebrew channel if you have a version older than 1.0.7 or if your Homebrew channel is not using IOS58 (press Home button in Homebrew channel to see the version and the used IOS slot).
1.1 Launch IOS58_installer homebrew, to be sure to have at least a good version of IOS58 (it will not install the latest version, but it will install a clean one, required by HBC).
1.2 Download Hackmii installer, extract it to your SD:/apps/ folder (SD:/apps/hackmii_installer_v1.2/boot.elf) and run it on your Wii. Select all the possible installation : HBC, and if possible Boot2.
2. update the cIOS. You need only 2 custom IOS:
d2x cIOS version 8 [base 56] in slot 249
d2x cIOS version 8 [base 57] in slot 250
You can also install V10 beta52 instead of V8, but if V8 works you don't need v10.
There are two methods to update the cIOSes : installer launched directly on the console, or wad files downloaded on computer and installed using a wad manager on console. If you want the wad files, use modmii program on your computer to get the wads.
If you want to use the installer :
2.1 Download the installer 3.1 http://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios-installer/downloads/list and extract on your SD:/apps/ folder
2.2 Download d2x v8 data : http://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/downloads/list and rename the extension from zip to 7z, extract in the d2x-cios-installer folder.
2.3 Launch the installer on your Wii. If you have to choose an IOS, select IOS236 or 249 (or IOS36 if you are still on Wii version 3.2).
Then in the installer screen select this:
slot: 249
base: 56
version: v8
revision: 21008

install it. Then do the same with:
Slot: 250
base: 57
version: v8
revision: 21008

install and exit the cIOS installer.
3. download/update your version of USBLoaderGX, and put it on your SD/USB (do not use the full channel, it's outdated)
3.1 Download the "3.0 All in one package version 249" here : http://code.google.com/p/usbloader-gui/downloads/list
3.2 extract the apps/usbloader_gx/ folder to your SD card (you now have version 3.0, revision 1180)
3.3 extract the /wad/Forwarder UNEO.wad (version 5.1) file to your SD card's wad folder. Install it, even if you already have a forwarder, this one is v5.1, you probably have an older version.
3.4 download the latest revision here : http://www.mediafire.com/folder/t2x95zd9rz3rc/USBLoaderGX (currently r1218), and extract the boot.dol file in the IOS249 folder. replace the boot.dol on your SD card with this one to update from 1180 to 1218.

now on your Wii:
3.5 Launch a wad manager, and install the UNEO wad file. it will place a channel on your system menu which is used to launch the "boot.dol" located on your SD card without going in HBC.

That's all for the minimal requirements.

4. You may also want to use FAT32 USB instead of WBFS (which is easily corruptible and deprecated), but if you really want to keep that format you can. it's up to you. You can convert a WBFS partition to FAT32 without formating, by using the program "wbfs2fat" which is linked in my signature.
5. USBLoaderGX is now compatible with GameCube Backups, for this you will need a FAT32 partition anyway, so you better convert your WBFS to FAT32. You will need to have the FAT32 on the very first partition of your drive if you have multiple partitions, and it needs to be primary (not extended/logical partition).

If your USB device is not detected, you can try with d2x v10 instead of v8. (do step 2 again using v10).

I guess it might have been caused by my slightly esoteric setup. Although I'm European, I actually have a US console. I'm using an English language version of the loader, but I am using a Japanese version of the game. It appeared to display the US title for the game, possibly because of my console and/or loader region?

I have been able to fix the title on my own console myself, however. :)

Regarding to emunand channel loading:

Is there a way to force set video for emunand channels?

The reason I ask this is because of compatibilty reasons.

Some Pal games do not work from emunand while the ntsc counterpart does.

Also I like to use the NTSC version of the virtual console games, mostly for the higher framerate and 480p option.

I managed to region change my Wii to usa and dumping my nand with usb loader gx resulting in a NTSC emunand.

Afterwards I set my real nand back to PAL.
So now I have a Pal Wii with a NTSC U Emunand.

This previousely worked fine but since rev 1218 but after my update things are screwed.
It'very confusing how to set up up videomodes, and even worse, succes is inconsistent.

To make things short, is there any guideline or possibilty to force video output for emuchannel loading?

Might there be a conflict for global video options? ( PAL real Wii and NTSCU EMunand )
Or are those global video options separate for Wii games and emunand?

video mode is hard to understand and setup.

Force NTSC doesn't work ?

If you use console's region (auto-detect), it will check the real NAND's region, even if you are launching a game from NTSC's EmuNAND.
if you use Game's region (auto-detect), it should set video mode to NTSC.

I changed some video settings in r1217, in r1216 PAL settings used NTSC video mode, since r1217 PAL use PAL video mode.
try to go back to 1216 and see if results are more consistent.

Hey Cyan, 2 questions:
  1. Would it possible to load DLC through emuNAND, like online multiplayer updates in COD Black Ops? I tried with both "full" and "partial" options but no dice.
  2. Why some games for example: Monster Hunter G, Target Terror, Splinter Cell Double Agent, don't support saves from emuNAND? Others (Japanese the most) crush when I able emuNAND save

1. online doesn't work with full emuNAND (I don't remember if it works with partial emuNAND) so you can't download the DLC. You can install them using wad files if you have them, or try to download the DLC on your real NAND and dump your nand again (just the required folders/files). Sorry, I don't have games with DLCs to test.
2. Some games doesn't work with save stored on emulated nand (Zelda Skyward sword is one of them). Davebaol didn't find why.

Sorry, couldn't help you much this time.

It is possible to play online games while Nand emulation is active. It is not needed to redump your Nand each time a DLC/update is downloaded, just download it on the real Nand the first time, delete it, and download it again on your emunand this time.

Other games are: Metroid Prime 3 on MP Trilogy (Wii reboots after a couple of minutes), Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility (stuck at the Wii strap screen), Spiderman Shattered Dimensions (freezes randomly), The Amazing Spiderman (it won't save after the 3rd or 4th mission).

you could try using earlier versions of d2x cIOS, put them in different slots and try those games with the older cIOS.
