I get corrupted character like this on random webpages: сEпсEосEватсE
It shows up fine in English but in other languages it comes up like the above.

Thanks.

Which language are you trying to display? Which website?
Either you are using the wrong encoding (the webpage should tell which encoding it's using, and the browser set it accordingly without user's input), or the website doesn't provide the encoding.
Firefox (or your font) is not compatible with all characters, and unknown characters are either rendered as interrogation point, or as a square with character's hex value inside.

Look where it says languages on the left. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode

Any language shows up corrupted. I was previously able to view the font of the languages but now they all come up corrupted.

Examples:
БеларусEEEEасE/a>
БеларусEEEEасE
(тарашкевісEEEE)E/a>
नुEEEEEEEाली नुEEEEEEEाल भाषा 日本誁E/a> сEEEEпсEEEEосEEEEватсEEEEи తుEEEEEEEుగుE/a> தமிழுE/a> తుEEEEEEEుగుE/a> แEEEEEEEย 粵誁E/a> 中斁E/a> УкраїнсEEEEка

Also, it comes up like this on any page that's not using English characters.
Same problem on Google Chrome.

just grasping in the dark, but it does seem that some of those unicode ''packs'' aren't loaded, to say the least. this is only a guess by someone who doesn't know a lot of this.
tried resetting firefox btw? it does reset other things like addons and preferences I think, but it can fix it.
I think it was help>troubleshoot information, or type in the adress bar
''about:support''

without the ''
at the top of this page you'll find a button with ''reset firefox''
however, only use when all else fails I think, because it may be a pain to get everything like you want.

he said it's doing the same in another browser, so it's not a firefox setting.
If it's a cross platform problem, maybe your default font (set in your OS) doesn't have unicode support?
Though, it looks like it's more an encoding problem than a missing font (it displays multiple characters instead of one for 2-to-4-bytes long characters)
You even have mixed results (japanese use both correct kanji, and malformed encoding)
日本語
語 this one is not correctly displayed

on wikipedia, if you right-click > page information > general tab : encoding is set to UTF-8 ?

The language column looks fine on my firefox (25.0)

Nevermind I figured it out.
There was a malware program know as Sendori installed on my computer once I removed that everything was normal again.
Except one thing, which was what you said above.

"語 this one is not correctly displayed"

Not sure what happened to that character.

It only displays incorrectly on Wikipedia though, not on here.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
