I'm guessing you ended up with a dud cart, honestly can't see the R4i team purposely ripping people off tbh, they've always been quite reliable on the DS scene.

im guessing as such
hopefully they can get back to me and send me a working one

its a nice card, just a shame it didnt work

the gateway fanboys damage control is coming

Did you read?

R4 3DS DIDN'T WORK. Whether it actually works, is fake or whatnot, it shouldn't have required so much troubleshooting to get it working when Gateway just works.

so this confrims that it is not an EXACT clone ,no LED ,different board layout

boring yes, but it is kinda odd there are those extra half of a pin set that will go unused on the back side of the card

what are the extra pins for i wonder? are they for some kind or special reader/programmer used by R4 to write something to the card

gateway red does not have those extra pins on the back side, and in the pic i can see traces connected to them so they most likely serve some purpose

I think everybody knew that the hardware was not an identical clone. Or rather, it was certainly a clone, but the chip arranged differently. (It's DS sized instead of 3DS sized) The software on the other hand is just a rip off. The main difference between Gateway and R4 being a couple strings indicating that the firmware is made by Gateway ripped out on the R4 version.

well Devins card just arrived in the post, so will know if they do produce working cards lol

completely different hardware btw
but just basically someone just editing the Gateway 1.2 files to work with other card

Please try their 2.0 firmware. They claim that there is firmware spoofing, but thus far nobody, not even the devs themselves, have shown it off.

Wow, do we really need three threads about this?

Something people seem to be forgetting about Gateway is that the cart has almost nothing to do with how it works. The cart just emulates a 3DS cart for the most part. The differences in hardware with the clones, if anything, show that they're more upgradable and versatile than Gateway's cart since they have a better chip running the show. This isn't particularly good for dodging future AP, though.

What's important is how the clones run. If you took any time to look, you'd see the clones don't use exactly the same code from Gateway - with a couple things changed but nothing of much consequence. Likely just slightly changed obfuscation. What this means is they'll run exactly the same as the Gateway, at least until GW implements AP.

Also, the thing about GW strings being removed is really badly misreported. In reality, most of the payload is different. They probably only made minor changes, but they did still make changes. (obviously since it's AES-CBC, a single change in a block will cause it and every following block to be different)

No matter what, the thing whit the clones, copies, new cards, whatever you want to call it is that someone already received a bad card and i bet it will not be the only one, so pretty much a waste of time or money in case no one take responsibility for it. I haven't seen a "my Gateway is broken" or "not working" word around and that for me at the moment make it a better card.

You obviously haven't been paying much attention if you haven't seen any "my Gateway is broken" or "not working" threads around here. My Gateway has worked perfectly, but others have had problems with theirs. It's a bit too early to be saying this new card is unreliable. If you go to a store for the first time, and end up getting bread with mold on it, does that mean all of the bread will have mold? No, it just means you were unlucky. Since Devin got his to work (with at least one game) I'd like to see how far this goes.

Yeah you are right maybe i haven't paid enough attention, and yeah maybe not all the bread have mold but will you return to the store after you got one?? I wouldn't. Anyway what i meant is that as the GW it's been more time around and I have not read a bad word about it so for me it's a better card, not saying will be or have to be for everyone else and i'm not setting my words in stone it's just that at this moment for me the GW has better foundations and so i have gone for it however it does not mean i will not change my way of thinking if the new cards prove they're better for the job. The way i see things are so far, the main disadvantage of the r4i cards is that it has a new revision time and time again, so if you want a new feature you need a new card, if there's an update you need a new card, if nintendo poops you need a new card and that sucks for those of us who don't have the money for it.

Hmm... wonder what would happen if you put the card in a DS, since they didn't have that notch on there to prevent it. Probably nothing or an error message but if you ever get a working card, you should try it just for fun.

No, I don't expect you'll be able to play 3DS on a DS, that's clearly impossible.

If you reprogrammed the FPGA you could certainly get it working as a DS/DSi cart.

Pong,

you might want to take out the part of it not working, because I'm sure many newbies will read that part and instantly comment "lol gateway is better, waste of money clone xD".

Or just put the edit in bold above the part where you mentioned it.

Newbies don't read posts, so you don't have to worry about that. Also: already happening/happened before/will happen again.

the R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe has a better MicroSD slot by my opinion
as the Gateway is Spring Loaded, and the R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe is not which i prefer as makes the slot more reliable

Newer GW3DS's (ones that come with a felt container & not a plastic one) don't have a spring-loaded slot -- at least, the second one I bought did not have one.

Upon speaking to the R4ids.cn team this morning they are going to replace the card i received, which is really nice of them (considering how many other teams will just leave you with the duds and have to buy another)

there support on the product seems really high

and also dont forget current owners of the cards
you dont need the DS Cart if you already own a R4ids.cn cart
(today they released an updated Wood 1.64 which even works on the Rev8 carts so you can use your old carts to apply the DS MSET data)
