you might want a card big enough for a rom AND the 3ds OS on the card as well (for the NAND Emulation and Nand Dumping)
and extra for other thing just in case

16gb-32gb might be good

Your mostly wasting much of the space on a 64GB microSDXC. The only point in people getting a 64GB microSDXC at this point in time is that those people believe they are going to get a multi-rom game manager for the red card within a few years.

You need at a minimum of 8GB if you don't plan to use the rom trimmer any time soon. Most roms only max out at 4GB in size and that is with the firmware update in some cases.

The other reason is that your not going to be dragging and dropping the rom onto the microSD, your going to be writing the rom as a image file to the microSD. This destroys any formatting you have on the microSD.

Yes I believe they will be giving us multirom sooner then later, look what they are putting out in 2.0.

So I wouldn't consider it a waste as a new user just buying in to this, I'm just looking for confirmation from someone who has formatted their 64GB microsd to fat32 and everything works with the gateway.

Yes you can format a microSDXC with fat32, it makes the random seek times longer by doing so. Example of this longer random seek time behavior is in mp3 players with a microSDHC slots.

Amazing link, thank you. It concludes what we already know, SDXC can be formatted to fat32 and the larger thab 32GB size will be recognized by windowsbut what the people in the article concluded the device they were using the 64GB card had some issues in certain circumstances.

So we still have to know how the Gateway will handle it.

Did everyone forget about the thread I posted here, where all you have to do is hide/unhide partitions? This saves you a lot of time since you don't need to wait however long it might take you to rewrite the image to the SD card.

And today only, 10% off at newegg

I saw that link you posted about partitions but it's irrelevan, they didn't get it working and there was no Gateway 2.0 with a menu about to be released, a menu is what everyone has said was required for multi rom.

It works, you can't do it within Gateway though and have to use a computer (or maybe your phone if there's an app) to hide the partitions of the games you don't want to play, at least according to the guy who originally posted it. It's a better solution than rewriting everything each time you want to play a different game and when multi rom support eventually comes out (which seems highly probably considering how far the Gateway team has come) you'll already be prepared.

Still need to know if fat32 formatted 64 micro sdxc will work properly with gateway. I'm not going to bother with paritions, this is about future proofing and being ready for multi rom support, 32GB won't cut it for me :)

16GB now so you don't have to ask or do this again in a few years.

In a few years when ROMS start to show up as 8GB files your likely to need a 16GB microSD.

hahaahah that made laugh really hard xD , 3ds will probably fail in 1 year, just wait and see :)

gameboy advance came out in 2001, and poeple still have or want one even after 10+ years long after production ended, and it had little to no security. That is just one example.

besides, your trying to equate the lack of developer trust like in the case of the psp to the 3DS.

I usually go for an 8GB SD card because Gateway actually warns against trimming roms. I have about 18 of them. You can get them on eBay for around $6-8 a piece either Sandisk or Kingston. Then, get a lot of 20 MicroSD card cases for around $5 and burn your games and put them in cases. Then, buy some labels for around $2 and label the MicroSD cases. DONE!

If you're gonna buy from eBay, just be careful of counterfeit SD cards. I usually avoid Chinese sellers when buying storage.

Sorry guys, didn't realize I posted a link to a SD 64GB and not microsd, here's a good link and it's still cheap at around $45

I know some people have said that a 64 should work if formatted fat32, but no one has actually confirmed they did it and it worked, I tried searching the forum and I didn't see it either.
It's at $50 dollars, which is still pretty good. Where I live 64GB UHS-1 microSD cards are 55CAD at the local computer store..

16GB is all you need. The biggest ROMs can only be around 8GB. Just in case that there is a few bytes' difference, a 16GB is a safer choice than 8GB.
