I need someone to help me with this one:
20131015_2100441_zpsa975ab6d.jpg

I bought this at a pawn shop for $6, and once I opened it, I realized it was missing the SRAM and a battery...

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a modding tutorial to fix this problem?

I have soldering tools if anyone asks.

Have you considered the fact that it may not need them? It's a blurry photo, what is this other than a GBC cartridge and does it even have solder points or pads where the supposed components used to be?

I could wire the SRAM in, it doesn't have to be on the chip. I'll meld it to the cartridge in a holder.

Games that do not use SRAM have this smaller circuit board. There's no room to fit a battery even if you're somehow able to replace its ROM chip with a compatible game.
I could put the battery on the outside, or modify the cartridge. It's for my own personal use.

Hurhurhur, it's for a Pokemon mod, I'm going to burn it to the chip later... uh, yes it needs the SRAM and battery, because I'm going to use it on Pokemon Stadium 2 later. The SRAM is the savedata numbnuts.

That's all well and good, but it doesn't look like this board can accept an SRAM chip at all. What do you plan to do with it? You can't just glue it in there and throw a battery at it and expect magic to happen.

Also edit your post next time instead of making two posts within a minute of each other.

Yeah... It's called Read Only Memory for a reason. Once it's programmed you can't burn flash anything else to it.

...Naw, you can't do that, or at least you really don't want to. It's a different cart revision altogether, you can't just randomly solder stuff to it. You could trace a PCB with SRAM and clone the leads, but you're better off buying a SRAM-equipped cartridge.

EDIT: Okay hurdur smart guy, we feeble numb-nuts are unworthy of helping you, continue "burning stuff" on ROM chips and soldering chips to an incompatible cartridge and once you are done failing, buy an MBC5 game with SRAM and a battery, desolder the ROM, replace it with a rewrittable chip and proceed. Instructables can be found online, just google "Home made Game Boy flashcart".

I wasn't expecting to wire it in like MacGeiver, no... I'm reading into pinouts, and there's the obvious difference of resistors needed, and maybe some registers. I could get a custom circuit board to do this, but I need some pointers.

I could try to buy another cart, but it's a long walk to the pawn shop.

And a new flash chip for the ROM itself, and a programmer, and the software to do it, and a way to modify the existing PCB entirely to accept an SRAM chip and battery.

Who do you think I am? I am a programmer, I will learn shit to do this. I don't care, lead me to some links.

I know where to get software and stuff to do this, for $22. No joke.

As am I - by no means am I a master of any of the languages I know, however, as I am sure you are, but programming is going to help you very little in the way of prototyping and electrical engineering.

As far as links, since I don't know this either, this is the best one I got - http://www.google.com

And you don't really want to know who I think you are, but I'll tell you anyway, because maybe it'll bring you down to earth a little - I think you're some arrogant 13 year old kid who has no idea what he's getting himself into and is trying (and failing) to berate anyone who steps in to try to explain to you that it's not as simple as you think. The attitude is unnecessary, pal.

You will find everything you need to do here, including schematics, lists of particular PCB's which can be modified, schematics for flashers, instructables and photos. What you are trying to do is technologically impossible and you're being the "numbnut" here.

I'm not attempting to berate, but you're assuming newcommer = dumbass. No, I'm not making a scene, but you're berating me. If you're not going to help, don't come to this topic.

Yeah, I don't mind looking into the schematics, just give me useful tips.

You create a topic saying there's something wrong with your cartridge, provide a picture taken with a potato, and then get pissed off at Foxi4 who tells you that there is nothing wrong with it all before you mention what you even want to do in the first place. Plain and simple, you're being an ass.

Yeah, I don't mind looking into the schematics, just give me useful tips.

Super-Useful-Pro-Tips:
  • When asking a question online and looking for council of people who likely know more than you do, do not call them "numbnuts" or they will immediately stop giving a f*ck about your problem unless they are as kind as we are.
  • ROM is called ROM for a reason as it was said before in this thread. You can't "burn" anything on it unless you find a way to exploit the actual chip and somehow restore writing capabilities. ROM chips have physically crippled writing capacity so unless you are adept enough to metaphorically carve binary onto the chip with your member*, you're unlikely to succeed.
  • Adding hardware to a pre-existing PCB setup is nigh-impossible. Mods like this rely on replacing pre-existing hardware with compatible chips, rarely adding new ones.
*This will not actually work, the vivid, colourful explaination is there for the sake of emphesizing that this task is practically impossible to perform.

I never said I knew more, I just won't take bullshit responses. If you're going to explain something to someone who is still learning, don't go "well you're just stupid". I know my shit, and I've researched a lot before I went and bought a cart. I didn't realize it was going to be missing a battery. Boo-hoo, I must be a kid because I didn't get a proper explanation when I asked.

And now that we have estabolished it won't work, I have been considering getting a custom board.
