Just wondering if there is a thread/database for what cards work? or shall we start one? As mine just arrived and I got mixed results with what I have.

So far

Sandisk 2GB
Sandisk 32GB Class 4.
Kingston 4GB Class 4.

All work fine.

Kingston 8/16GB Class 10 - Made in Taiwan, verify as legitimate on Kingston's site.

Don't work - Show nothing inserted on main menu.

All were written to and prepared the same way, so I'm guessing there are some issues with certain cards.

The problem with Kingston branded microSDs is that they are the one of the most counterfeited brands or legitimate kingston flash media that failed quality checks in one form or another. AKA the R4 equivalent in the flash media, which makes it harder for someone compiling a list of working kingston brands from fake kingston brands.

The problem comes in the form of a user supplying information on a kingston branded microSD and can't tell where it was made, etc.

All mine are verified on Kingston's site and are made in taiwain. I suppose I can add that and for others that have them, if they don't verify with kingston/you don't have the packaging, then don't add them.

Wonder why mine don't work then. All legit, all verify. Tried another card reader and same. Not the gateway as the working cards show up first time, everytime. They do work in the blue gateway, where you can just drag & drop, but not the red.

Guess the cards are just trolling me.

Someone else with 16GB not working

http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/thre...-16GB-Class-10-Incompatible-with-the-Red-One-!!!

I wonder if it's dependent on batch/factory (I assume they aren't all made in one factory in Taiwan) as to them working on not or combination of card reader/card.

The ps3crunch post is very limited in the required info, no batch info of the microSD or where it was made etc other than a long explanation of issue. We know it is the card, we just don't care about the long winded post of it.

It might also be due to the reader used probably.

Where's the batch info? I'll check to see if mine are same batch (Have x2 8GB).

I''ll try changing card reader as well. Going to go with the transcend rdf8 as it gets good reviews, as maybe the ones I have just don't like class 10 & are also a bit slow and probably a bit crap anyway.

If still no go, I'll just grab some sandisk and put these to use in other stuff :).

I don't think the card reader may be a problem if you can use it to store regular files. I bought a very chinese SD/microSD to USB reader for $1.55 and it works fine with the stored roms.

Had a Sandisk 4GB laying around and a spare Transcend 8 GB Class 6 laying around. Tested those two along with my Transcend 16 GB class ten, all worked with no problems.

If you got a linux system you can use what is applied in this blog post to find out if the kingston is crap or not.

Kingston has a product verification page as well.

http://www.kingston.com/cn/support/product_verification

Don't have a Linux system, but there are plenty of usb bootable ones, so I'll check that out later. As for batch/lot. The 8GB are from the same batch, the 16GB is from a different batch.

On that note, what does it mean available under, I can just poke around, but if someone more versed in linux could elaborate, it would be nice :).

All verify and check out legit on Kingston's site. All bought from a reputable retailer.

Not sure there is much I can do, even if the electronic data shares same oddities as the questionable on that site, I can't really return saying, they check out legit via Kingston & work fine for everything except writing roms on the gateway

I've tried with Patriot 2GB ? ...class working fine
Kingston 8GB made in china .... works fine
Kingston 2GB ? class ... works fine

and then I bought 4 cheap Kingston 8GB class 10 made in Taiwan, 2 work fine, one works sometimes and the other is not working at all, and I've tried many times, however that last card works fine for windows files... It was driving me crazy.

Sandisk 2 GB
Sandisk 16 GB class 10
Transcend 8 GB class 6
Patriot 16 GB class 4
Kingston 8 GB class 4
Kingston 16 GB class 10

All of these works fine for me so far...
