Hardware nand flash dump (3ds xl)

The MMC protocol uses CRC. If there is a write error during write, the eMMC controller detects it and refuse to write it to the NAND. But if your cardreader uses SPI instead, there is no CRC and baddumps are possible.

This diagram shows what happens when one connect the reader to e-mmc. lines used in this tutorial are SDIO mode (non spi), even onboard SD derivatives (mmc) have minimal crc checking routines,still d/c writing in SD mode is much safer, than bare bones SPI mode.

if you're writing directly to a cell in that second, even SD mode (mmc, etc) can corrupt the block, and create a bad crc, that could render the block segment dead if a physical failure. It's much safer than SPI mode, but still.

Careful with d/c or interrupt while restoring NAND

still won't brick your 3ds or nand chip. new bad block will be remapped same as others.
 
Is it possible to do this without any soldering? My solderer broke about a week ago and I really want to test this out! Also, maybe someone here could make a tutorial and parts list on this, that would be extremly helpful. Thanks!

Making fun of yourself? Those points looked small. There are always "ways" but without solid connection...pray you pull a correct read;-).
 
I don't really see any way to reliably do this without soldering, especially since you are going to want to get at least four dumps or so to verify validity using hashes. How exactly does a solderer break, can I ask? B-)
 
Soldering iron, gun? Lol, translation is they cannot solder. Or call a computer a "puter" or something. They can burn out, tips go bad,e tc
 
Hah most likely. Impatience is the most important thing usually. For a laugh, check out team xecuter forums for truckloads of people who destroyed countless xbox mobos with shitty soldering.

Yes, and I think xboxhacker.org a few years ago. It was technical and little BS other than arrogant flamers. I told a guy to hold soldering iron to chip on 360 then when a hole was there to try to solder a wire from it!!! Same issues, nobody read or searched first. A mod did not like it so I used Google translation to make choice phrases about the mod then posted it. Took a few hours but banned, ip blocked, some comment like, "Lifetime ban: being an asshole.". I helped people with fixes and later only read posts.

I see many potential issues with this 3ds soldering. I hope people post pictures. Soldered to trace, lifted pad with an inch of trace missing, lifted components. Stuff people pay me to fix. For giggles I soldered wires from back of micro ish legs to alternate points on a $300 remote. Dude at least stopped. Stop, find help, lol.
 
Heh. You can't fix stupid. I think it's a symptom of the current generation, they don't want to invest any effort into anything. It's not like soldering is particularly hard, but you have to just do it carefully, taking your time if you must. (this nand dump solder job of course is really easy, had more trouble with the sd adapter interface side of it than with the pads on the 3ds.)
 
i had an even better idea, i assume the XL comes with a cradle too right?
so why not put 4 gold pins on the bottom of the 3ds , then add some spring pins like on an old cordless phone base built into the cradle going to either a usb connector, or mini or micro usb connector in the back of the cradle or just have a cord coming out the back of the cradle going to the sd card adapter ,use a dremel to make some fine slits on the back plate of the 3ds for the pins , and to drill out the cradle holes for the spring pins ,then when you want to do a dump you jusy set the 3ds /xl on the cradle

Good old dremel, lol. I have a Black and Decker "rotary" tool that works well. The metal cage around the 360 motherboard on the old "fat" models were cut with that same tool. Amazing how much you can do with it. Fine cuts on plastics, great for case mods (many devices, not just a 360. I HIGHLY recommend people look into those for cutting plastics, metal, and even wood with the right attachments.

yeah the one thing that sucks about them is the little disc mounting bit with the little flat head screw at the the tip of it, your supposed to use the other end of the chuck tightening tool to un do the screw to mount new cutting or sanding discs on it, but the chuck tool is a piece of shit made of tin or cheap steel and it bends when you try to tighten or un screw the screw, and the flat head screw sucks ,its near imposible to find the right driver to get it out without striping it, if it even fits at all

Ok so I'm using a micro sd card reader for this and keep getting the error 0000000 0000000 00000400 0000000, occasionally it will be a 2 instead of a 4, but I can't manage to read the nand ever. I have managed to get it hooked up to a smicrosd to sd card adapter but it was too touchy and only read sometimes.


Is there something wrong with microsd card readers that I can't use them?
 
Can someone post a video tutorial so i can do this myself? My soldering skills are average at best but ill take a crack at it. If it looks to hard is someone offering a service for a minor fee?
