Okay, I know it's a vocaloid, I know that there's games, music and such. But I mean for concerts and stuff.

I was watching this:

And I'm curious about it. I don't know a thing about this stuff, so what is the concerts? Like is it a real band playing and a real singer doing the voice? Is she just being done on a screen? I'm kinda shocked by this.

Well, if you watched the video, you would've seen actual people playing instruments there, and I imagine there's a real singer in the back. Or possibly even use recorded video. Heck, iuno. Ask the people behind Holo-Tupac.

3D holograms work by creating an illusion depth of an image to three-dimensional visual capability. The 3D holograms images are visible from all sides.

Also, it is not a real voice, just some dude who spends WAY too much time using the Vocaloid program.

Well it technically is a real voice. And WAY too much time? Or he has you know, a talent and is making a living off of it.

Oh, I inferred vocaloid to be a term for holo-singers.

I may like some things from Japan, but singing cartoons? I'll stick to my tentacle monsters, thank you very much.

Based off a real voice. Also, Vocaloid doesn't take much talent to use, you just gotta program the MIDI and add in the dynamics, just takes a long time before you are good at it and can replicate a human sounding voice (I made Hatsune sing the Fresh Prince of Bel Air once).

From what I know there's a real band playing and the voice is just prerecorded. The image is a projection onto a glass screen or something. And programming the voice is not all these people do, AFAIK most write their own lyrics and do most if not all of the instruments for the original version. There's also some sort of weird keyboard that can be used to play the voices live. I'm not sure if those things are actually used by anyone though.

It's amazing. There is a transparent pane on stage where the projection is shown via lights of the Vocaloid characters 3D models. To the sides are a live band who play the music while the vocaloids provide the voices. Lasts for a couple hours, various spiffy light effects, costumes, music, and a lot of people with glowing leeks. The music doesn't consist of a single person's work either, but more like an accumulation of songs from various people. Anyone who tells you it's strange, weird, awkward, or any other term other than those synonymous with awesome, spectacular, amazing, "the best thing since sliced bread", etc are to be completely ignored and considered dead to the world.

Most of the Vocaloid songs are from anime. Do you mean a MIDI keyboard? I don't know much about Vocaloid but, if the lyrics and dynamics are there, the keyboard might be used for the notes..? And I doubt anyone would use a keyboard for Vocaloid, even when composing (OK, maybe when composing to test how each note sounds).

I don't think anyone uses the keyboard thing either, I think it was more of a proof of concept thingy. Anyway while there are a lot of anime covers there's also a lot of original works. Here, have one.

From what I remember, hatsune miku has come to the US (San Francisco was one (?)) and they (it(?)) sold out.

As others have already said, the concerts are images projected onto glass screens, with prerecorded vocals and a live band. And since Hatsune Miku was the one that sparked the whole Vocaloid craze, all of the Vocaloids you see in the concerts and games (well, at least so far) are only from Crypton Media, with songs produced by many different people.
Despite this, there are still a couple of Vocaloids from other companies that have also gained a lot of popularity, such as Megpoid GUMI and IA. The Vocaloid software itself was created by Yamaha.
Most of the Vocaloid songs are from anime.
Not true. All of the songs within the games, concerts, etc. are original works created by various people. Vocaloid is a big phenomenon in Japan, and if you've ever been on niconicodouga (Japan's most popular video website, and the place where Vocaloid began its popularity) you'd see thousands upon thousands of original works.
To be honest, I listen to a lot of Vocaloid, and I can guarantee you that out of all of the songs that I have, none of them have anything to do with anime. Not to mention that songs covered by Vocaloids only make up a minor part of NND (and I've actually seen more videos of people covering Vocaloid music rather than Vocaloid covers of other music, anime or otherwise).
