And finding the DRM/AP redundant is fine (obviously people agree with that basic point as this thread exists), but don't make false claims.
It's not a false claim if it removes/limits a feature that's important to me (and probably important to most people with PAL games). You're technically right that the system can't run ISO files, however, that doesn't negate the point. My wii is a launch-model with a wii-key and can boot the games from the disc channel from DVD-R. In fact, my Wii seems to dislike GC and (Wii) DL discs for some reason, and actually works better with DVD-R's compared to the original GC discs.
My point is not just that AP is redundant, but the game released in Australia cost ~$99 compared to US versions costing half that. What that means, essentially, is that Nintendo profited significantly more from me buying Australian version GC games, than if I had bought every game from Amazon.com in the first place. So, my collection of GC games = (
much) more profit for Nintendo than, say, an american's collection of equal size. Tueidj doesn't have to cater to everyone to acknowledge the fact that Nintendo has made their profit on their PAL version that I own, and if I want to play the NTSC version - which tueidj disagrees with - because it offers a benefit to me (480p) - it doesn't negate the fact that I already paid
more for the game, and Nintendo profited, compared to the version that I want to play!
Why do you think I installed a Wiikey? Yes, it was so I could buy import games for $49 instead of the Australian releases for $99. That's a huge benefit. Well don't get me started on "two tier marketing". I'll say that around 50% of my DVD's are imported and probably ~90% of my Blurays, and it's not because I don't want to support local distributors, it's because I'm fundamentally opposed to price-fixing. You know, one of my favourite movies is Blade Runner, and the DVD I own is Brittish, and the Bluray I own is American!
I still play my SNES games on a real (albeit modified) SNES. And, although I could easily dl + use the shared versions online, every game I play I've copied from the original cartridge myself. So if the SNES loader (Snes9x) wanted to verify my games, it could have at it, and would be no trouble to me. I just love playing my PAL DKC 1, 2 & 3 games @ 60Hz (which is faster than they were intended to run). There's no SNES game that's important to me that I don't have an original cartridge for.
But as for GC, as I said, I paid ~$99/game for my games. Back then I didn't have a 480p TV. I now have a great TV, and I loathe the idea of being forced to play in 60i.
You can take or leave my comments, they're not dishonest, I'm simply stating my opinion.
