Which Metroid?

Haven't played the game (duh, of course :P) but I agree with your premise on humanizing Samus (is she also Metroid? What's a Metroid? Btw, how come she can turn into a ball? Is she even human?)

Why would it be no point to just play Corruption instead of the trilogy?

It would be no point because he wouldn't be familiar with the whole concept of...
The Prime Metroid or Dark Samus... or Phazon in general.

Samus Aran is a human, Metroids are the head-sucking aliens. :P[/spoilers]

I think it's not the incomplete story or concept that'll bug me--I've nosedived into latest Resident Evil, Resistance and Killzone without having any good idea what it's all about. Being unable to play more (should I enjoy the game) will.

If you simply wish to pay for the games, why not buy 1 & 2 on gamecube and 3 for Wii and then run the trilogy backup? You'll also avoid the whole dual-layer disc issue by running off USB.

I see you're adamant in asking me to run off USB :-) it sure sounds convenient!--fast boot, preserve laser lens and stuff--but I'll pass, I wanna play as originally intended (well except for using loaders instead of disc channel that is, since Ninty is so liking the region lock model)

I wouldn't say I'm adamant about the USB (though I personally love doing so) as much as I am about getting the best experience you can get (which means playing Prime Trilogy be it retail or via USB)

I actually liked Other M - I think it's a great game gameplay-wise. The story may be meh and they may have "oversensitized" Samus a little bit, but I enjoyed the fact that they tried to show her as a human being rather than as a human tank for once.

My n****.

Price aside, there's one possible hiccup: Other M and Trilogy are dual layer discs. I have no idea whether my Wii can read dual layers. I'm gonna buy PAL version because it's more affordable and my Wii is NTSC (I believe but I got component cable), so which loaders can play dual layers? I have Neogamma r9 beta 36 ios 249 rev17, Gecko 1931 and latest WiiFlow.

My Wii reads dual layer discs and it's an NTSC console. All the loaders can play dual layer games, but I prefer WiiFlow, even though it is dark and ugly. Neogamma is really outdated and it's not really needed unless you have a soft spot for old classic functions. I still have it; I like it but I don't use it...

Other M was fine as far as gameplay. It wasn't perfect, but it was still fun. It was just the dialogue that sucked. It did have a pretty good story, assuming you knew the back-story behind Samus and Ridley (going back to her childhood).

I found the gameplay terrible as well. It was all about spamming dodge, fire once, and going back to spamming dodge. Got old really quickly. The pixel hunts were terribly inaccurate as well, during one I stared at the spot I was supposed to several times but for some reason it never registered. And whoever came up with the "switch to first person to fire a missile during battle" should be shot, usually by the time I got a lock on my window of opportunity to shoot had passed.

I say stay away from Other M. I am sure some will disagree, but I hated that game. The Prime's were awesome, as is old classic Metroid. Go with either of those.

Other M pales in comparison to the Metroid Prime Trilogy. I wouldn't even bother with it. If you just have to play Other M, do so after you play Prime; the Prime games are the good stuff.

You can play Metroid Prime 3: Corruption without having played any of the other Metroid Prime games (it's what I did first), but trust me when I say you'll want to play all three, and if you're going to play all three, you might as well do so in order. You can get Metroid Prime Trilogy used for around $90. If I were you, I would play Metroid Prime Trilogy with a USB loader, see if you like the first game, and let that hold you over until if/when you buy Trilogy.

I didn't have a problem with it. What I wasn't sure of, I picked up from the scans. It's all explained in there.

Btw, Samus isn't...
strictly speaking human, as her DNA is infused with Chozo DNA. That's why she's stronger, faster, taller, etc.

From what I gathered, Samus Aran was born a human and her DNA was altered later so that she could survive on Zebes, but I may be wrong here. Either way, she's "enhanced human" in my book. ;)

Download Super Metroid first for Virtual Console, before touching any other Metroid.
It´s the perfect start to get the Metroid concept, the mood and it also has the best music of the whole series.

Then get the PAL version of the Prime Trilogy.
It is by far not as expensive as the NTSC version.
I just bought a mint condition one from ebay for 35 Euros.

Don´t start with corruption!
Start with Prime 1!
This is not comparable to your RE6, Resistance 3 or Killzone 3, Prime is about gameplay and exploration, so you should definitely start with Prime 1 (after Super Metroid).

Samus was raised by Chozo, so i guess they tweaked her DNA a little bit. ;)

She was born to two human parents and adopted by the Chozo - huge difference between this and just being born with Chozo DNA, which was my point. ;)
So i guess this picture relates to this?

Her parents getting attacked (and killed?) by Ridley.
Do you know in which game they explain why she was adopted by the chozo and why she was born with chozo DNA?

This thread has become a spoiler-fest

Anyway, you'd be better off playing the trilogy, but if you can't, you will still be able to have plenty of fun with Corruption. It's a great game. You'll just need to make sure you do all (or most of) the scans and read them, specifically the lore ones.

Not really, the only 2D side-scrolling Metroid I've ever played was the original game on the NES. I do know the origin story though.

Yes, i´m just curious where you got this info from.
I recently played through Super, Fusion and Zero Mission and played through the Prime Trilogy and Other M in the past, but i can´t remember any info about her early youth.
Only these Fusion/Zero Mission gallery pictures.

There are some tidbits in the first Prime, but a lot of the early stuff is told through the manga.

Manga and the Wiki probably. The official manga is where you get the most detail.

I hate trying to quote your posts, I have to remove the brackets from your name.
