Hey guys Im new to this forum also to wii hacking / modding in general and I have come across a problem that has really grinded my gears.

I have followed the guide at https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/ for the most part and have installed the homebrew channel, installed clos and have attempted at installing USB loaders - First usb loader gx which I quickly gave up on as I was getting an error of -1029 when installing the WAD for the forwarder installation - tried numerous wad managers none worked. Then have installed Wii flow (didnt require wad installation so the forwarder/channel was installed fine) however the only problem with Wii flow now is that it only plays backups from my SD card (only have 2 which is yugioh and twilight princess). It reads the files from my USB drive(s) fine but once I launch them from the menu it goes to a blank screen then just cuts back to the Wii channel selector menu. - Have tried 3 different USB drives which 2 of are confirmed working.

After that I had another go at installing the configurable usb loader and following steps here http://gwht.wikidot.com/usb-loader
also installing d2x (expected in the 248 slot) Hermes' IOS222/223 and IOS236.

However no luck using that loader either (even worse actually doesnt even read my USB drives at all just gives me a countdown and a bunch of useless options coupled with frustration.
I am on system menu 4.3e if that makes any difference.
Sorry for wall of text... I am really at a loss here - Might just have to buy a 32gig SDHC card and forgo any homebrew options.

Tl;dr followed instructions to play backups through usb loader, can only play from SD cards not usb drives and very tired and over it after hours of struggles.

Any help extremely appreciated!http://gwht.wikidot.com/ios236

This may be your problem. Most USB Loaders will just ASSUME that you have this installed in the 249 slot and you have to specifically tell them if you have ANOTHER one in another slot you want to use instead. WiiFlow works at first because it usually doesn't actually switch to the cIOS until you start the game but GX starts with the cIOS from the very beginning and so it looks for it in 249 instead and crashes.

That's my best guess, anyhow.
The fix, the most common/compatible setup is to have d2x with an IOS base of 56 in slot 249 and another one with IOS base of 57 in slot 250. You can add other ones in other places as well if you like but that's the basics.

That's weird, because I'm using d2x, slot 248 base 56 and WiiFlow works right out of the box. GX too.

Try reinstalling everything.

This is how I originally set it up with usb loader GX I Believe but had the same issues as Wiiflow with loading to a black screen and reset to Wii menu.

edit: to specifiy I orginnaly had the above set up with usb loader gx which I tried with wiiflow after it failed THEN installed the 248 slots and other cios files

natkoden

How would I go about reinstalling everything? Can I just preform the steps to install Cios to override the current ones up to installing a loader or would I have to recover my files with Bootmii?

thanks for the responses so far

You can delete your cIOS (everything above 200) with Any Title Deleter Mod or Multi Mod Manger, and then install ios236 (this one will be used to install the different cIOS) from here and:

  1. For USB Loader GX, install d2x from here
Slot 247, base 57
Slot 248, base 56

  1. For WiiFlow (works with GX too) try with Hermes' cIOS, here.
Slot 222, base 38
Slot 223, base 37 or 57
Slot 224, base 57

Alright so far so good however at the point of installing d2x into slot 247, base 57. The current IOS is set to 58 v6432 rather than IOS236. Is this ok or is there a way to change it? I know last time I had to use an earlier version to be able to change the current IOS to 236

Edit: So I tried out wiiflow for the hell of it, now when i try to start yu gi oh from the usb it goes straight to a quick black screen then to the wii menu unlike before it would take a while to reload. I tried zelda and that played my mario cart disc for some reason (console is trolling me i swear)

further edit: removed mario kart disc from drive now it just spins a non exisiting disc and goes to a blank screen when trying zelda. SD no longer plays games.

So far I have removed all cios above 200, installed ios236 and installed 222 223 224 in the correct bases with hermes cios and no luck with anything.

Alright Now I have installed cios d2x in 247 base 57 and 248 base 56 using the 2.2 revision with ios236 and I have regained access to playing games on the sd card with wiiflow, no luck again however with usb loading same problem with the dvd drive loading with zelda and blank screen to wii menu with yugioh

If it makes any difference the hardrives im using is an ntfs formmated 'wd elements 1023' 500gig and a fat32 formmated 'wd 2500bev' and I have tried both usb ports on the wii with no such luck

Alright I have had some luck following this, Zelda now loads with my usb hard drive, yugioh not working however further testing is required. Thanks so much Max and you also Nat both of you helped alot and I have a further knowledge now of how the wii system works

edit to whomever is watching: cant get yu gi oh to load on the usb harddrive however it still works on the SD card, will need further backups of my discs for testing other games

For yu gi oh, try loading it with ios248 base 56. I'm assuming you're loading it with 247 base 57.

Some games require 56, other 57, etc. For most games try loading with 248 56.

The slot is not that important for d2x (247, 248, 249, 250) since most USB loaders will search for them anyway, like WiiFlow or USB Loader GX do.
