I don't suppose you had a chance to see my twitter proposal. If you didn't my idea would essentially involve you tweeting a few times just to let us know if Gateway indeed loads and saves 3DS roms. Essentially this would tide us over until a full scale review is released (which I figured would be a while since you stated you plan to play every available 3DS rom).

The issue I see with that is I could post "Legend of Zelda: OoT 3DS is working" and then everyone flocks to buy the GW3DS because I said that one game works. I later try a different game like Metal Gear Solid Snaker Eater 3D and it doesn't work at all. Everyone who bought it after I said LoZ worked is probably going to be pissed. But perhaps if certain people would like it done that would understand that one game =/= all games working. Then I suppose it could be arranged.

I was talking to Devin last night in the shoutbox. Our guess is that the reviewers are getting the sample at the same time everyone else does.

You are also forgetting that Nintendo released a firmware update that blocked the Gateway 3DS unit, and as you should know, they're working on a workaround to get it out by release. And by the way, two years is nothing for a first generation flashcard. The DS took roughly the same amount of time, if not longer, and those things were freaking clunky as hell. :gun:

Well not exactly on the DS flash carts...maybe slot 1 cards took a while but Neoflash had a slot 2 cart working very soon after DS was released and it wasn't that longer after that the SuperCard SD (which was sold as a GBA cart) was working as well. I remember using both those carts before DS lite was out and before 50 ROM releases were even out. These new systems are definitely more secure and taking longer to crack and lets remember 3DS hasn't really been cracked....just cartridge slot emulated. Those first DS cards were a pain mostly with the game save issues but once supercard figured out how to use their patcher to push and pull the game save from flash card everything was pretty smooth even though it was using the Slot2. Now I, unlike a lot of people, flashed my DS and then DS Lite with the DS Boot slot2 hack, but even before slot 1 carts were out they had some slot1 cart that would trick your system into booting DS on slot 2 without that hack.

Similiarly the PSP was hacked very quickly on firmware 1.5 which was the US release firmware. The first hacks were not custom firmware and getting games to run was a little tricky but isn't wasn't long before a true CFW came out. Vita is still nowhere near getting hacked although there is a way to use certain PSP game save exploits to get a hacked PSP mode....problem is $ony keeps patching the firmware and they seem to have shut down the any game with kernel mode exploits for the time being since firmware 2.02. It's always been a cat and mouse game but I have feeling the days of the PSP, Ps3, and Wii softmod type hacks are behind us and in the future it will take even longer and be even less likely we will get homebrew.

I remember getting my M3 CF (Slot 2 flashcard) on DS around summer 2005, prior MKDS release which was on November 2005. (DS was released Nov 2004 (March 2005 in EU)). So nope it definitely didn't take 2 years. And the M3 CF wasn't even the first device to be released, it had already numerous features and improvement over Supercard.

So I see that acecard pro was bunk crap as the thread was started back in January....still the idea of merging a gateway 3DS with a DS cart and using a mini swtich is what I envision the next round of cards after gateway comes out will do. This could still be useful because they could make a 3DS management app that runs in DS mode that lets you switch the rom you want to play and to access the eeprom for backup and restore....this could all be done automatically thru a DS app. That would be pretty slick plus it would still give you your full DS library and DS homebrew with things like moonshell ect. If Nintendo doesn't figure out how to permaban the gateway technology I am sure someone like SuperCard will have a dual mode card with a switch out by years end and that would be my next purchase after gateway....lol.

Right because I remember Supercard announcing quickly after DS came out that they had SuperCard SD working for DS roms (I was shocked and delighted because I had just bought the SuperCard for GBA use and had no expectation for DS). Initially they just patched some early roms themselves and you had to keep a DS game in slot 1 with with the same size eeprom to use for save. Then boom within months they released their first patcher so that you could patch your own roms, trim them, and choose wether to use slot 1 or SD Card for you save files. Like I said before SuperCard earned major cred with me by supporting that old SD model up until 2010 with patcher updates and I still use it in my DS Lite because with the slot 2 hack the thing boots instantly and gives you both DS and GBA games. That's why I hope once gateway gets in the wild that SuperCard makes a dual mode card as I will definitely support them even though I have a gateway preordered and am waiting for it with trembling anticipation.....teehee

I do remember that NeoFlash was kind of a POS. They only supported a few dozen of the first roms and it was clunky and save management sucked...they were first. They claimed you get get multiple ROMs runnign but that never worked well. If I remember it was 1gbit (128mb) so you couldn't even get all games to work on it. After Supercard got their patcher out I remember flashing it up with a bunch of GBA games and giving it to one of the little kids in the family. I have a feeling gateway will be similiar in that it will probably be rendered lame soon enough but hey if it gives me something to try some of the more obsucre games I haven't purchased then it will be fun for a while

Haha I did mention the fact that it took that time, if not longer, in case my date was slightly (or in this case, pretty, inaccurate.) But you get the idea. ;) As we're both aware, things took a damn long time to roll.

I just remember taking out my friend's NinjaPass flashcart about a month or so ago, and it's like what the hell, we've really come a long way. That's why I just find it really funny that people are constantly bitching about the "tedium" in having to carry around some SD cards.

Nothing else to add.

Can we have a thread lock until something relevant is announced? Been checking this daily only to find more and more useless information such as the one I'm quoting.

I'm glad you posted then.

Your post is also effectively useless.

As is mine too.

I'm considering getting the 3DS Gateway flashcart, but I'd really like to play Animal Crossing: New Leaf in the meantime. Seeing as the Gateway's release has been delayed to hopefully overcome the latest official 3DS firmware patch that blocked the cart out, I guess it would be ok to update my 3DS to this firmware. I mean, if they actually release the Gateway it would be fixed to play on the current firmware right? They wouldn't just give up attempting to fix it, send out claimed copies and dishonor a lot of their customers, would they?

Where we all like you, no one would say anything and the whole forum would be dead.

Well I wouldn't do that, but if you can't wait, then do ahead.

Yes you have some reason there, but then again, we've seen situations like this fail before. So to be safe, I'd say hold on just a little while longer. If nothing comes up, then update.

QUESTION: If I use the hardware USB flasher dongle to update my bullshit "Rev C" card, will it force the update and succeed 100% of the time? Or will new updates just keep failing on my card? (I'm stuck on 4.4.0-10/1.4.5 firmware with DORASU logo.)

I'm more curious how Nintendo can "supposedly" block a card that hasn't released yet... I call BULLSHIT on that one, fellas.

They accidentally or purposefully patch a known security hole, and only by coincidence that the Gateway 3DS uses said security hole.

So when is this thing delayed until?
About a week and a half more at best.

They may have blocked it through more accurate and far more strict policies in verifying whether the cartridge inserted is something that is "allowed" to be inserted. If this happened, then the software on the GateWay may need to be changed in order to account for these changed security policies in the 6.X 3DS and above.

Yes, hopefully it will just be a firmware update for the Gateway, and the cat-and-mouse game can keep going on for eternity... I was hoping the Gateway would be a fool-proof, unblockable card... but now I have little hope for it...
