I see, thanks for info, I was worried the update was auto-applied without warning or something. I'm willing to be careful responding to the prompts for the sake of playing online.

I sent gateway an email this morning about any updates, here's their response:
"
We will release more info and new video next week.
An early & growing list of retailers is available here:
http://www.gateway-3ds.com/resellers.html

We are adding more each day, so come back if you do not find the right
distributor for you. Remember we just announced the product, so it will take a
week to have a distributor in most countries, please be patient.
Pricing and shipping cost are indicated on the reseller site.

Release date is imminent, next 2 weeks, RRP is $79.95 and a full list of features
and more details will be announced soon. For now, you can check the FAQ on our
homepage.

mailto:[email protected]

Is there any news to this product? Release date time frame etc? When will the
website be updated? Is it safe to preorder?"

i'm really hoping they actually release this hot mess. everyday that goes by the info changes and it seems they'll disappear without a trace, goddamn ninjas >.>

Has Devin stated once he receives a Gateway card how long he expects a review to take? I'm just not sure how this process will work. Will he load a rom, play for a few minutes, then save, and see if the save then loads properly. This process could then be repeated with the key 3DS roms.

I'd love to see him start a Twitter account dedicated just for Gateway review updates. Such as "Paper Mario rom loaded properly and I played for a few minutes. Then I saved and it loaded properly a minute later."

Reviews do tend to take a while, unfortunately. The longer he takes, though, take it as a good thing, as he wants to be very thorough with the entire process. When I talked to him last time, he was intent on testing every single US 3DS ROM out there, so it could take quite some time. And keep in mind, that reviews are not just simple articles to throw on the internet, and a lot goes into the process. ;)

I understand the need to be thorough with the completed review. That's why I like my Twitter update idea. That way everyone who is interested in Gateway, which I imagine to be a pretty big list, can find out quickly how well each rom saves and loads. Realistically there are around 20 games or so your typical gamer will want to play most on the 3DS. So it would be a shame to let third party titles no one cares effect how quickly we find out how well games like Paper Mario and Fire Emblem load on Gateway.

The Twitter account could essentially tide us over before the completed review.

Honestly, since he's testing and writing the results anyways, it's a bit redundant to have to also maintain a Twitter account just to feed the impatient masses looking for answers. And third party game or not, they're still games, and they still are relevant, even if you think that no one is going to care about it. It doesn't matter if it's the best selling or worst selling, they're still games, and they're all going to be tested to be thorough.

Devin, once you get it, could you just tell us in this forum plain and simply if it even works. Then continue with your review. I don't think that's too much to ask, right?

I don't know the details, but I heard some of the people working on 3DS hacking claimed that, and if that's the case they're probably right.

I thought they made a physical copy of an actual cart and hardwired a SD reader to it and that's it, but that comes straight into my question:

IS ANYONE HERE actually more interested in how they achieved that? I confess I started wanting only and exclusively a hack for pirating purposes, but as I grew eager I started to read about chip decapping, security norms, code injection and all the processes behind hacking a console, also I learned how to 'understand' 3DBrew's updates, tho not completely. Playing games for free is now a secondary priority, I want to know how the heck did they made it work, if they got the keys somehow, if they injected code somehow... Any of those things would open the system to a billion possibilities.

That is exactly what has been discussed on this thread for nearly 50 pages, over and over again. Which is getting really annoying, especially for those of us who really do not understand that much about hacking.

However everyone in entitled to their opinions and discussions. As such, I would propose another thread, specifically about the ways the Gateway cart could possibly work.

I know we already have a thread about hacking ideas and conceptions.

What I am proposing is a thread for Gateway's functioning related ideas only.

Sadly, that will not be able to solve anything, because closing this thread results in new members creating excess threads asking the same questions you'd see here. More work for the moderators, when you can have one irksomely large thread with a central hub for all the questions.

Can Devin take for we some photo or video of flashcart gw3ds?
I lost a bit confidence for gateway with this delay...

Let's remember initially they did not give a release date, they just said in about a month. Then vendors started claiming it would be between the 15-25th, I think gateway got slammed with a lot of people saying where is it and now have said 2 more week.

So they release date has been pretty soft all aong and atleast they have had the decency to say don't start pre-ordering until we give the green light, ironically their approved distributors are taking pre-orders and charging people....which in itself is a bad policy as you are not supposed to charge someone CC until an item actually ships.

So lets see what happens next week as this two week window is two weeks from when exactly, and hopefully they will show more video next week and also answer the burning questions of how will save backup/restores be handled, and how will the cart be 'upgradeable' or flashable. If they can show us something on that then we will atleast know they are making progress. If they keep pushig back the date past this two week window then things are looking very fishy and a lot of the vendors that have pre-sold and pre-charged users are going to start taking some heat with people wanting to get a refund.

A don't care to much about delays as hell we have waited over 2 years for a 3DS flashcard, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a scam as that will really be a downer. Hopefully next week will produce something convincing.

When was it stated at they needed an extra two weeks? Last I heard was the end of the month, and they have no new info up on their site. I saw the email, but the email has no date. Dates would be a much better way of talking about things instead of spans of time which could be from two weeks ago to today.

I was talking to Devin last night in the shoutbox. Our guess is that the reviewers are getting the sample at the same time everyone else does.

You are also forgetting that Nintendo released a firmware update that blocked the Gateway 3DS unit, and as you should know, they're working on a workaround to get it out by release. And by the way, two years is nothing for a first generation flashcard. The DS took roughly the same amount of time, if not longer, and those things were freaking clunky as hell. :gun:

Yes I understand that. But my proposal is not about closing this thread.

I proposed a new thread for Gateway's possible software and hardware discussion, along with all the assumptions people like to make about the cart, such as how it will work.

This thread would still be open.

What the fuck. The formatting suddenly went to hell. Anyways.

I understood your post, but either way it's still another nuisance on the staff laundry list to manage. We can easily discuss those ideals here, but cue GBAtemp tendencies, and we argue for four pages, only to be brought back full circle at someone like me saying that we should just wait things out. :P

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
