Apparently, the following strings were found in the latest Steam Beta Client.

“SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicense_Title” “Shared game library”

“SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerText” “Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it’s time to quit.”

“SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_BorrowerText” “This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.”

This may mean that we will be able to share our games (or select games) with our friends, but we'll have to wait for an official announcement.

Hopefully this will work out to be a better system than the MS system. (It was rumored that the family share was actually a timed demo.)

Microsoft said they will not be doing family share any more now that they changed their DRM policies recently. I agree, though, this would be great if it actually worked. I usually use my friend's account to try games before I buy them (it's like piracy, but slightly more legal!), so this would be even better.

Well, first of all, it's not my license, it's my friend's. Second of all, I'm pretty sure somewhere in the lengthy ToS of Steam, it says you cannot share accounts. It may or may not be illegal, but it's definitely a breach of contract (even though it's a crappy contract).

Breaking a ToS is not illegal. They can't press criminal charges or sue you in civil court. They can however ban him from the steam store.

How would they even know that you are sharing an account?

Truly sharing or maybe even selling your digital games, sounds pretty sweet.

(It was rumored that the family share was actually a timed demo.)

That would be so stupid, then again, all this DRM was stupid to begin with.

How would they even know that you are sharing an account?

If you are trying to log in from 3 places around the globe simultaneously?

They are pretty lax about it, actually. Their old authentication system would only let you play for 2 weeks offline. The new system doesn't have that restriction. It's annoying if you have your own Steam games that you want to play, though. You have to log out and log in. I'd much rather have a sharing system in place.

As if they could find out :rofl2: Not any worse than people letting others use their Netflix accounts IMHO ;)
