I've questioned this for a while-does the Wii U delete the files on an SD card with homebrew on it? (And if so, which files trigger it?). It gets annoying to have to take out the card every time.

I'm going to test that.

EDIT: No, it doesn't format it. I forget where I heard it from, but someone said that the Wii U menu formats the entire SD card.

Lol, won't detect after boot, do insert SD card after boot. Then, there are other exploits out there. Like smash stack is the only exploit!

No, but if you install HBC, the Wii U won't even try to delete anything in vWii mode, esp. now that you can hold B to go to it. I think that method may even allow USB HDDs to be used without the format prompt.

Wow, where have I been? Wasn't aware that backup loaders were even running. This could prove to be very advantageous. :P

some portable drives even have a dock that do the same thing, before i upgraded to a bigger one with a power supply (too many games on it LOL) i had a little 250 GB WD drive where the dock costs like $15 (like 4 years ago).. fun thing is that pretty much every USB Loader can use NTFS now so you can easily use for more than backups and attach to your computer without worrying about accidentally formatting it.

edit: looks at your listed drive in your sig......yep, that's the drive i was using, only a 250 GB one
