Well, my pocket's got a great reputation breaking things. (My nexus7's screen cracked in there while kneeling down to tie my shoe :/)
And the 3ds (basically because it's a big thing) ain't an exception.

About a week ago, I came home after school with my 3ds in my pocket. When I opened it, I noticed a crack on the screen. The glass wasn't broken, it looked like there was some sort of internal crack. I didn't really care because while playing I didn't notice it anyway. I just left it on my desk.

When I opened my 3ds again to play some OoT about 3 days ago, a wild black-purple-looking stripe had appeared! (Srry, random Pokepun :P) Since then, I have been checking every day and it looks like it's getting bigger, like a strange liquid is spreading.

Here's how it looks today:

(I know, the date on the camera fails a bit :/ )

I'm pretty worried, and I'd like to ask: Does anybody have a clue on what it could be? Also, a bit of information would be appreciated.

You cracked the lcd display panel and the innards are leaking out / bleeding. You're gonna need to get it serviced or replace the screen yourself.

Oh god not replacing screens... And this time it's a 3d one :/ (I've gotta be more careful...)
Any clue on how much a new screen would cost?

EDIT: This page confirms your theory

This is the top screen. LINK

Thanks for the info.
IDK if i'll replace it since I don't use my 3ds that much, and I can live with a black stripe on the screen.
But it looks pretty cheap (compared to the ~150$ nexus7 screen) anyway.

Does this substance ever dry, or will it keep leaking?

The substance is the liquid crystal innards of the screen. It doesn't really dry, but there's so little that you'll never notice is moist or wet. However it will keep bleeding until the screen is more or less unusable.

Wow, that really sucks :/
I think I was just hoping to read that it dries up after a while...
Well, at least the link you gave me is really cheap.
I think I'll just order the screen soon.
Tnx for the info.

Just one more question: Are there any disassembling guides for the 3ds?

i only buy new ones when theres a new standard and I have gear that uses it. Otherwise my cables seem to last forever.
