Hehe, got your attention, huh?

Recently, SEGA has announced that later this year they will be releasing a new Sonic the Hedgehog game. What game is it? Why it's port #8633 of Sonic 1!!! Specially made for you Android and ios users! Yes folks, hold onto your pants. We are getting a 60FPS, remastered port of Sonic 1, and 2. And since you and your mother already have 50 ports already of those classic Sonic games, SEGA is being kind enough to offer the game for free to those who already purchased Sonic 1 and 2 on the app/google play store. Whee!

The port will be made by Christian Whitehead, the genius behind the Sonic CD port. Personally, I'm tired of all the Sonic rehashes, but I'm totally excited for this, as any port by Whitehead's team is always top notch. (And usually come with very nice bonus features)

OMG this makes me so want an iPad more now! I mean I already have these games on XBLA, PSP, and computer so why not have them on that to!

I have both Mega Drive cartridges of Sonic 1 and 2, does it count?

Android users already have a Genesis emulator.

Most iPhone emulators perform like ass though (I have a 4) so I guess it's something.

*People talking about emulation*

Which part of "60FPS remastered version" is vague and requires further explanation?

OMG this makes me so want an iPad more now!

Careful, this is SEGA. They'll pronbably see that, knowing it's sarcasm, and still use it in an ad. I can see it in a gif banner ad now:
Scene 1: NEW remastered edition of Sonic 1 for Apple and Android! *shows pictures of sonic*
Scene 2: "OMG this makes me so want an iPad more now!" Says one excited fan. *shows generic excited person found via google images*
Scene 3: Coming soon! *end with Sonic running at the gif banner*

so if I get this right it is a re-release of the already released app but now running at 60FPS (at least apple's store, I can't talk personally for android market/Google play store)

My excitement levels are in the negative zone. One can only play Sonic 1 so many times...

It seems like nobody here understands who "taxman" (aka Christian Whitehead) is...

Taxman wrote the "Retro Sonic Engine", this won't be a port... (or an emulator, like the old iOS ports were) but a re-write (Sonic 1/2/3 have all been dissambled, most "Sonic Hacks" aren't really ROM hacks)...

It might even include some extra content, like the Sonic CD remake.

Whitehead's port of Sega CD was excellent. It was clear that he's talented chap. Whilst this news is going to be underwhelming, the quality of the ports is going to be high.

Someone knows what he's talking about...
