1. Wii U doesn't have a hardware power button, wii u freezes, you have to pull the plug
2. wii u gamepad doesn't support rf so you have to set your directv receiver to ir to use the tv remote function
3. the wii u is very noisy with a disk in it, remove the disk when you are not using it
4. look for parental controls on the menu, you can lock the data management so your kids can'tr delete your saves
5. gamepad only lasts like 5 hrs on high brightness... turn down the brightness in home menu>controller settings> gamepad>brightness=1

If you have mire useful tips, post them here!

NO HARDWARE POWER BUTTON? That sucks!!
(I knew about the no reset button but this ...)

Can't you just hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds for a hard power down (like the Wii?)
Nope, if the system software freezes too, the power button goes with it

Same with any wii software (happens often with wii64 for me)

I've seen maybe 5 people across here and gamefaqs say that the disc drive is noisy. I'd really like to hear one of these --- I've forgotten that my Wii U is on before, and the only other noise to drown it out would be the a/c.

It isn't. It's no noisier than the 360 or PS3, actually probably less noisier than a 360.
