First of all I will apologize, I know you all get very angry when someone asks a question to something that has most likely been answered. I have searched but could not find it.

I followed Truth's Simple guide to install d2x cIOS on vWii + backup NAND and keys. (http://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/)

Everything seemed to install correctly, I have wiiflow and usb loader downloaded. No USB HDD, just my SD card and a few backups on burned discs that I have used on my Wii backup loader that have worked fine.

I open wiiflow and usbloader gx and try to open the disc and all I get is the error "Open_disc failed".

I have tried with multiple games and have tried reinstalling the cios and all that good stuff a second time, but still nothing. Am I doing anything wrong? Can backup discs just not be played from a Wii U yet?

Wii U's drive is NOT capable of reading DVD-R or other "burned" disk formats. You will need those copied to a USB flash drive or HDD for them to work at all on Wii U.

EDIT : Actually, you should also be able to run them off the SD card with WiiFlow (GX can't do SD, though, only USB)

Thank you very much for that. I will try out my USB flash drive until I can get a HDD

Now I am having another problem. I have my Skyward Sword Iso, 4,272,256kb. When I try to copy it to my 16gb usb flash drive it says its too large for the destination file system =/

I formatted the USB to NTFS and it is fitting now so will try with that

FAT/FAT32 has very relevant size restrictions, for a fat32 drive it is (2^32)-1 bytes so a 4GB iso will not fit on the drive.

that confuses the hell out of me. I mean i've downloaded off of the Wii U shop more than 4gb worth of content and had 12gb left on the flash drive so why would it be any different adding a 4gb iso?

Because the Wii U shop doesn't use FAT32, and it probably doesn't store games in a single file anyways. If you want to use a FAT32 drive, you have to split the ISO first, but I think using NTFS is better. You are wasting a lot of space with uncompressed isos though. You should use wbfs files.

It's that 32-bit number (thus FAT32) can only go up to a little more than 4 billion (4gb) kinda like in normal numbers a 3-digit number can't be bigger than 999 since 1,000 then becomes a 4-digit number. NTFS just uses more bits (digits) for the number that shows how big the file is.

If you were to have used Wii Backup Manager to "transfer" the game to the USB drive it would have saved it in a different format that splits it up into smaller files that would fit on FAT32 and takes out unused space to make they smaller
(there are some kinda hacky ways to put bigger files on FAT32 but scanning chkdsk will say it's incorrect or corrupted so it's better to just use Wii Backup Manager to put games on there)

EDIT : also, Wii Backup Manager can "transfer" directly from the burned disk in the PC drive to the USB drive. No need to make a disk image first.

I'm not sure which d2x cIOS you ended up installing.
- If it was v10-alt (r53) it should be able to use ANY of the USB ports on the Wii U but there are more USB drives that it's not compatible with. In that case it might just not be compatible with your particular USB drive.
- If it was v10 (r52 ... usually the recommended one.) the compatibility with different USB drives is BETTER but I think it can only use the top USB port in the back of a Wii U. In that case you might want to try plugging it into that specific port and see if it helps.

Yeah idk, I have it in the back top USB port and whenever I go to load usb loader gx it just sits on initialize usb device so maybe its something wrong with my drive but idk it has worked fine for everything else

nowwww i figured out what it was, i had to format it in the backup manager but now its saying USB device not found, switching to channel list mode. I hate this shit.
Do you have any other USB drives you can try ... or even a good sized SD card (except that GX doesn't like SD card for games. You'd have to use WiiFlow, CFG or PostLoader)?

Have you tried using that flash drive in your old Wii?

Man, use the Wii Backup Manager. Is a PC program. Open it and create a wbfs folder on root of your sd
Go to file and search to your zelda backup iso. Then open the sd in another top label selecting the correct drive of your sd. for example :I, if your SD is the I Drive.
After this back to your iso label and select transfer wbfs to your sd and you can put the sd on your wiiu. You cant try edit wiiflow.ini to find the right folder, but i belive is not need.

my SD is only 1gb I wouldnt be able to fit any games onto that, its why I have been trying to get it to work on my USB flash drive. Still no luck, It just doesnt recognize my USB flash drive for some reason.
