So a friend of mine got an AK2 and several games wouldn't work.
So we updated AKAIO to the latest version (1.9.0), but for some reason, several games still cannot run, including Pokémon Black (2).

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
He's tried formatting the microSD with Panasonic formatter before updating AKAIO, but it would get stuck on a white screen upon loading. Tried to load it while holding down X, but wouldn't work.
(Cheats were also no on.)

That's odd. Cos I also use Acekard and I have not run into any issues (and I am not even on AKAIO 1.9.0). Is the rom you are using clean? If not, then try to find the patch. That might be it. Not sure.

I got him to re-obtain the rom in order to see if it was just the rom that was messed up, but he told me it didn't change anything.

lol re-obtain

you need a CLEAN!! Rom
Clean, no patches, no modifications, Clean
get from another location, you can always dump it yourself

Format the SD card to 16K clusters using the Panasonic SD Formatter. I remember reading that certain games don't work unless you do.
Happened to me too so I would try it if I were you.

He has gotten it from another location.
Unsure if he actually can dump it from his retail cartridge, since his 3in1's battery is dead and he cannot use the Wi-Fi dumping method.

the rom should have a crc value of 25BA3AA6 or a crc value of 8A42D36E. the second value is for the dump that has the correct header.

make sure the akaio loaders have been updated. if that fails format the msd card to 16k or higher clusters and turn off AP patching. (IE: format G: /Q /A:16k /FS:FAT)

AKAIO v1.8.5 AP patching will not work with my 512MB ROM file, why?
The new AP patching provided by Team Acekard had the potential to brick older AK 2.1 kits by overwriting a section of an older/larger bootloader. To fix this problem the AP code was reworked by Normmatt and as an unexpected side effect 512MB ROMs now require a microSD cluster size of 16KB or higher. Manually formatting your microSD card using your Operating System tools will allow the 512MB ROMs to function correctly. There remains the possibility that this problem will be addressed when Team Acekard releases the 2.1 reflasher (unbricker) as it should provide a much smaller (updated) bootloader.

@Another World: I had tried turning off AP patching, but it didn't work. I'll have a go at checking the CRC values sometime if all else fails, though.
@Rydian: I had downloaded the latest loader from the loaders page, but it was the same as the one which was bundled in the AKAIO download.

Got a hunch that it may be that the card could require formatting with 16k clusters, since we've tried (almost) everything else (almost, because we haven't checked the CRC values.)
That could make Black 2 work, but since Black (1) isn't a 512 MB rom, might not work for this one.

Are you sure about that? I just downloaded akAIO 1.9.0 from both GBATemp and akaio.net and they both have the July 4th, 2012 loaders. The loaders in the link that Rydian provided are dated November 29th, 2012. If you obtained akAIO 1.9.0 from any source other than either of those two, it's possible that that could be your problem.
