Check the video again, Ghork. It's no coincidence it shows what it shows. There "might" not be a problem...there IS a problem. Namely: the wiiu doesn't have gamecube controllers.

That, and disk verification will probably be a bit harder. So for the moment: there won't be gamecube games on the wiiu. Continue using your wii for it.

The disk verification can be solved with online solutions, but the lack of gamecube controller interface does severely handicap the project

Actually, it already has the ability to play with a USB keyboard and mouse so emulating the gamecube controller with another device is already implemented and WiiMote and Classic controller support (which was already a planned future feature) would just be a matter of having that emulation connect to them through bluetooth.

The adapter you're coughing about so much makes the Wii or Wii U THINK it's using a classic controller so once it works with one it'll work with the other.

The real trick is the disk verification but if a late model normal Wii (the ones with no GC ports) can still verify a disk with one of these:

Then the Wii U could do it, too. (just without Classic Controller support people don't seem to see the point in trying it out or are too scared to do so.) but tueidj once made a comment that made me think it could be done with a USB-DVD reader, too.

EDIT : by the way, I can't believe no one else ever thought to make a GC to classic converter like that. good job taking the initiative.

Disc verification depends entirely on how tueidj wants to implement it. There is no technical requirement for disc verification, and Devolution would work just fine if he were to remove it entirely. However, he's not likely to do that, so it will come down to how he wants to update the verification method to work with the WiiU. Also, my adapters only matter if you actually want to use real GC controllers. The Classic Controller will be supported directly sooner or later.

I'm not the first to do it, I just gave the hardware a nice upgrade. I took the design from bootsector, and I know he used software from at least one or two other sources, and I'm not sure if the original hardware design was his or not. So it's been done before, I just shrunk it down and polished it up a bit.

qwertymodo I know you made the converter, and I'm not discounting that at all, but I don't know how many you can actually make and how many people will have access to them so the potential handicap remains
