I hate to fan these old flames, but this is too funny. For the record, I was bluffing.

Me:

Hard to believe its been almost 2 years since thousands of content DSi owners traded in there systems for a 3DS
all for one promise on Nintendo's part, a flipnote application for 3DS. Now the internet is CRAWLING with people demanding news and cursing Nintendo's name. I don't want feature info. i dont want a specific realese date.what i want is some sort of progress update. (i.e. still in debug, post production testing ect.)
please refrain from using the folowing response:

"In answer to your question, we're still working on a flipnote application for 3DS. However, we dont have any specific details on when this application will be ready for launch. as soon as we have more details, we will share the information on our website at www.nintendo.com."

Nintendo fans are infamously loyal and deserve at least an update on the situation and to ease the thousands of flame-wars nintendo cast upon the web. What really insults the consumer is the inability to transfer Flipnote Studio to the 3ds. I had to take the 3ds and DSi to a university and have the IT department remove the restriction so i can copy Flipnote Studio. It took two and a half weeks! With NO games. Nintendo needs to release at least some news on the subject, or they can expect to loose a considerable amount of money, as I will only play games with pirating software if Nintendo lets me down (im not alone. use google!) Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Thank you for reading this and I look forward to your response.

Nintendo's Response:

Hello,

Thanks for writing. I can certainly appreciate your interest in the status of Flipnote for the Nintendo 3DS. While I realize you didn't want to hear this response, in answer to your question, we're still working on a Flipnote application for the Nintendo 3DS. However, we don't have any specific details on when this application will be available. As soon as we have more information to share, we'll post the news to our website at www.nintendo.com. I will be sure to document your interest in Flipnote for the Nintendo 3DS so that the teams working on it will know of your interest as well.

Having said that, Nintendo does not support the use of emulators. In fact, software (also known as ROMs) downloaded from the Internet to then be played on another device via an emulator is illegal. Because the main purpose of video game emulators is to play illegal copies of games, Nintendo considers it a form of piracy. In addition, Nintendo does not grant permission to download or use ROM's legally.

(LOL)

For information on this topic, please go to the Corporate area of our web site and link to the "Legal Information" section. Here is the direct URL to this section:

http://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp

It is also important to note that the license allowing you to use Flipnote Studio on your Nintendo DSi does not transfer to your Nintendo 3DS. This software was not written to be compatible with the Nintendo 3DS. As such, we don't recommend you continue to use this software on your Nintendo 3DS, as doing so can cause issues with the system. If such issues occur, Nintendo will not be able to assist you with them, nor will Nintendo be able to assist you with any technical issue you may experience on your Nintendo 3DS in the future.

(LMAO)

For more information regarding piracy in the video game industry, please visit Nintendo's Anti-Piracy website (http://ap.nintendo.com/) or the Entertainment Software Association's website (www.theesa.com).

Finally, as your primary interest in Flipnote is using it for animation work, I wanted to let you know that there is DSiWare you can download to your Nintendo 3DS which will allow you to practice animation. This software is called Inchworm Animation. While it is not exactly the same as Flipnote, this will allow you to practice your animations on your Nintendo 3DS.

(Sh-SH-yeah...)

Sincerely,
Jason Smith
Nintendo of America Inc.

It's very real. What's fake is me taking the systems to an IT department (they probably would't touch this with the 50' pole) and declaring piracy
(i dont condone piracy, but it sure got ninty's attention) this is the fastest reply from them yet >5 min.

edit: Don't take my word for it. Try it yourself. declare piracy and circumvention and there bound to believe you.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer, but

I love how he thinks you're using a "rom".
And how can their own software cause issues with their system?
/logic.
Just because software work on the old device doesn't necessarily mean it simply works on the new one.

"Nintendo does not support the use of emulators. "
But their Virtual Console games run on . . . um . . . .
You know what the person meant. :P

one more think they forgot is the 3d movies
No, what they forgot is media capabilities in general.

I can't play any movie that's longer than 10 minutes. Bullshit.

Should I cellotape my Pokemon Ruby card to my phone while I emulate it? Will that make them feel better? I don't care if it's illegal, or if it's piracy. I'm not doing anything morally wrong.

You're using your device in a way that was never intended, which is morally wrong. But I'm in the camp that believes once you've bought the product, it's up to you how you use it. Whether that's playing games, home brew, or experimenting with the laws of physics via a sledgehammer. I'm sure they never intended it to be subjected to sledgehammer treatment.

Didn't know until now nintendo talks about roms to the public.
Went to that site and has thousands of questions about it. One that makes me laugh, how does nintendo feel about the emergence of nintendo game emulators

Not true...

- If I use a knife instead of a screwdriver to unscrew a screw, how is that morally wrong?

- If a doctor use a straw to help someone breath through a small incision in their neck, it isn't morally wrong, even though a straw isn't intended to save lifes

- If I decide to kill an insect with my shoe, it isn't morally wrong just because my shoes were intended to protect my feet and not for killing small creatures
