how to rip psp games

alright this mini tutorial is going to tell you how to rip psp game. the pros of a ripped psp game is faster load times. the cons are that they take up room on your psp.

thank xist for telling me how

step 1: be on a cfw that has vsh menu i do not know if the newer firmwares have vsh meny if so just tell me and ill fix this statement. untill someone tells me otherwise i will tell you how to rip games using psp_isotool.

step 2: in the vsh menu set the usb device to umd drive(this will make it so that the game you want to back up opens up when the psp is plugged into the pc.

step 3: copy and paste the game to where ever you want it on your hard drive. (the game will looks something like umd9660. that is crisis core not all umds will have the same name but a few will like megaman powered up and megaman maverick hunter x)

and thats all there is to it for ripping the game using vsh menu and pc.

step 1: have psp iso tool in your game folder the link to download it will be at the bottom of this post

step 2: make sure you have at least 2 gigs free as it will be dumping the game directly to your memory stick

step 3:make sure the game you want dumped it in the psp and start up pspiso tool

step 4:at the main menu of iso tool select umd drive. next select the format you want it dumped as i usually select iso as it works beeter because some gmes dont work as a cso like the gta games.

step 5: name the game what you want it named as. after you select the name choose yes. now it is reading the game so wait patiently after the game is read it will write it to your memory stick.

step 6: exit iso tool and go to the game folder on your psp and you will find your newly dumped game there.

now that you have your iso i'll bet you want to make it smaller to fit more games on your memory stck as well. well the program umd gen will help you with that. it will convert a psp game to iso or cso forfat and let you rip the useless files.

step 1:open umd gen(i will put a link at the bottom of this post) and click the open tab.

step 2: find the iso or cso of the game you want and open it

step 3: now you want to go to the psp game and click the plus to expand the folder and see tho contents. next click the system directory too view the contents.

step 4: delete the update folder and boot.bin. DO NOT DELETE THE EBOOT.BIN if you do you will wreck the iso so do not save the iso or cso.

step5: next you want to click the tab that says dummy search it will search the iso or cso for useless files to reduce to 0 bytes.

there you are done so now to save the game as an iso or cso.

step 6: click the save tab now pick iso or cso.(warning some games do not work right as a cso such as the gta games) if you pick cso a window will open asking compression value(the higher the number the higher the compression) pick what ever level of compression you want.

now the iso or cso is saving to your pc congratulations you have backed up and compressed your own game.

i will not tell you where to get games to compress. you know the rules and all that. all i can say is google is your best friend.

also i dont think this is rule breakin if it is i apologize in advance

i will add pictures at a later time to help explain

iso tool
umd gen

I'd argue that this is Dumping games. Ripping would be removing content to decrease size. Also UMDGen has a 1 click optimise button too (may break some games).

YACC is also possibly a better tool to compress/decompress with.

Am I right in assuming you're SOL if your UMD drive causes your PSP to lock up on start?

Well can you actually describe what happens a bit better than that? Do you literally mean you power on your PSP to the XMB (the menu) and then put a UMD in (assuming you've tried more than one here because it could indicate a bad UMD) but the PSP drive just endlessly whirs away?
