I tried a few times now to get the official iPlayer 1.1 plugin for the DSTWO to work, to no avail.

* I have extracted movie.plg, movie.ini and movie.plg into _dstwoplug.
* The plugin's readme file references a "DSTWO PLAYER" folder, but it's _ds2Video in the zip file. I have tried with both names.
* I am using a class 4 microSD card which is correctly recognised.
* I have extracted this from Linux. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but their change log states they fixed a bug with extracting on Linux. Maybe they use DOS 8.3 file names for iPlayer?

After startup, the iPlayer plugin draws a white screen, then a white screen with a small horizontal black line, then the white screen again, on both DS screens. Then it freezes.

What do you guys suggest, apart from reformatting?

That won't really work as I'm on Linux, not Windows (I prefer Linux, and I develop for CATSFC on it).

How about this:

Code:
echo "This card contains data, not an operating system." > cardmessage
echo "Boot from something else." >> cardmessage
sudo mkfs.vfat -f 1 -F 32 -m cardmessage -s 64 /dev/sdg1
rm cardmessage
* -f 1: one file allocation table
* -F 32: FAT32
* -m cardmessage: when booting via MBR, show that beautiful message above to say that the medium is not bootable
* -s 64: cluster size of 32 KB (64 half-KB)
* /dev/sdg1: card device

I am also a Linux user, most people on here are Windows users though, so I always give the same advice.

What you just suggested should work too.

Edit: Sorry I didn't read your original post fully through, I wasn't wearing my glasses, so it was fussy for me.
There was an error in the first release, where you couldn't with Linux, it would just cause it to crash if you did. So they released another one fixing that problem.

Did those commands to format the card, then these commands:
Code:
sudo mount /dev/sdg1 /mnt/card
cd /mnt/card
unzip ~/dstwo/DSTWO_v1.11_2012_1212_eng.zip
mv DSTWO_v1.11_2012_1212_eng/* .
rm -rf DSTWO_v1.11_2012_1212_eng
unzip ~/dstwo/dstwo_iplayer_v1.1_eng.zip
That installed the EOS to the root, then extracted the rest to (microSD)/_ds2Video and (microSD)/_dstwoplug. EOS boots and shows loads of ?'s, then "movie". Still a white screen after loading "movie".

edited after the fact: Oh dear. Did they update the download on the site? I got the file named dstwo_iplayer_v1.1_eng.zip. I didn't rename it after. edit 2: more helpfully perhaps, md5sum movie.plg returns 5bb7e7ec2f85df6d042fd5bdbff416ee

I havent messed with it for while, but think the file structure is important with the dstwo iPlayer. I use BAGPlug, so I bypass the plugin menu entirely, but I've noticed that the iPlayer still needs the _ds2Video folder, and the movie.plg needs to be in the _dstwoplug folder.

That's the layout it has in the .zip, and I just extracted it as-is on a pristine FAT32 filesystem. So the .plg went under /_dstwoplug and the iPlayer stuff went as files under /_ds2Video .

The readme file references copying a "DSTWO PLAYER" folder to the root of the card, so I tried renaming /_ds2Video to /DSTWO PLAYER .

Should it be _ds2Video or _ds2video, or does that not matter?

ah, i see. just trying the basics for troubleshooting. hmmm. i know you mentioned not wanting to, but next step would be to back yer stuff up and format perhaps?
To try, I actually did reformat my card. But instead of my main one, I took another SDHC class 4 and ran a command to create a new FAT32 filesystem with 32 KB clusters on it.

The change log for iPlayer on eng.supercard.sc states they fixed a problem that occurred when a Linux system unpacked the .zip to the card, and that appears to be what I'm experiencing, even though it should have been fixed in the release I downloaded.
